The RSL-browcombed_puregreenm file and YOU!

May 10, 2010 23:27

Its come to our attention that there's a tonne of sims being shared that are suffering from the 'suckerfish' style file, RSL-browcombed_puregreenm.package. This file attaches itself to any and all sims packaged in bodyshop - whether you used it or not. Massively suckful, right?

If you don't use clean installer to remove it when you see it then it will also go into your own downloads, and begin attaching itself to YOUR files as well. Though it does seem like a benign attachment, its still annoying and prolific.

There's an original discovery post about this at thesims2, entitled File always shows up in my Sims2Packs.

As outlined in that post, it can show up as being named something else - especially if you install a downloaded sim using the EA package installer instead of Clean Installer. The name suggested in that post is: 38ece0f829ad74c0da3fb0fb9doabff.package, and 38ece0f8298ad74c0da3fb9da0bff.package.package.package.

I've actually found this file in my downloads in the past by searching my machine for that string of numbers, but unfortunately that number CAN change due to installation with the EA package installer randomizing the file names.

So basically, please be aware of this problem, ALWAYS use Clean Installer (or MacUnpack) to install sims and if you have any further suggestions on finding this file in order to BURNINATE IT out of your downloads folder, please don't hesitate to comment!
