Author's Note:
So there's this girl.
And I met her through an RPG website.
And we became fast friends, and shared lots of opinions. I always called her a genius, even though she's not that smart (just kidding, of course. ♥)
Next thing I knew, it was summer and I was staying up until 6 AM with her, even though I knew it was stupid. Even though I got in trouble on several occasions.
And I know her birthday is tomorrow.
And she told me not to get her anything. That it wouldn't be a big deal.
Fucking no, it doesn't work like that.
Because despite me being a total idiot, all the time, she puts up with me. Sometimes I like to tell myself she enjoys our conversations as much as I do. I know I'm fucking weird, immature, very comparable to a puppy, and I never know what to say to make her feel better... I'm sorry for every stupid thing I've said to her; for every time I was just so stupid, and she had to "*ignores*" me.
I hope she knows how much I care about her.
Because it's a lot. ♥
Dedication: To
alifeofourown. Happy birthday, love.
Eames woke up with Arthur in his arms, fast asleep. He kissed Arthur's cheek, smiling wide.
"Wake up, love. It's your birthday," he murmured into the man's cheek. Arthur clutched him closer, vulnerable only when he was half awake. Arthur shook his head, nuzzling closer to Eames. Eames laughed, kissing Arthur's cheek again. "I've got a wonderful day planned for just you and me." Little did Arthur know, Eames had a massive surprise party planned for him once they got back from day of silly things; like the Zoo, rollerblading... all things Eames knew Arthur was bound to bitch about, but maybe if he was lucky, enjoy.
"I told you," Arthur said, finally waking up enough to form words. "I don't want to be reminded I'm getting another year older. Can we just go about our normal day?" He buried his face deeper into Eames' chest, who held him closer.
"Absolutely not," Eames said, pulling back and sitting up. Arthur followed him slowly, sprawling his own torso on Eames' lap, looking up at him.
"Why not? It's just another stupid day that means nothing. Big whoop. I'll have a lot of more birthdays that the next day, will be nothing more than a stupid day."
"This is a lot more than a 'stupid day', love." Eames met his gaze, taking Arthur's chin in his hand. "This is the anniversary of the day my entire world was born." Eames leaned down, Arthur stretching to meet him as much as he could, and they kissed deeply.
Arthur pulled away slightly, looking down. "Eames, this is ridiculious. I-I don't want to do anything, and your stupid words won't change that."
"Well then, Arthur, maybe my actions will." Catching Arthur off guard, Eames flipped them so he was on top, kissing Arthur again; fiercely, pinning him down with his hips. Arthur squirmed, always so unsatisfied with being dominated. Eames knew Arthur loved to be in control of everything, and well, Eames just fucking loved to watch him squirm.
Leaning in closer, not letting Arthur loose, not giving him any window of opportunity to gain dominance, Eames' kisses trailed down to his neck, and when he began to suck and nip, Arthur momentarily stopped squirming to gasp, hands flying to Eames' exposed back to dig his finger nails into him.
"I hate you," Arthur growled, already needing to catch his breath.
"So quick to get so excited, Arthur," Eames said with a laugh, pulling back and kissing him again, and then crawling off of Arthur. "Go get a shower first, we have a lot to do today." Eames walked over to his one drawer in Arthur's dresser--which all articles of clothing in the drawer had to be Arthur approved, which also meant they were dull and boring--to pick out his out fit for their outing that day.
"What?!" Arthur demanded, sitting up, his hand going to the hickie Eames left. "You're such a tease, Mr. Eames." He glared at the man who seemed unphased by everything he said.
"Go shower, love, I'll go downstairs and make coffee and your favorite breakfast, chocolate chip pancakes. And then we can go out after breakfast." Eames laid out his outfit to get changed after he cooked, starting for their bedroom door.
"Wait a second, Eames!" Arthur snapped. "First off, aren't you going to shave? You look like Big Foot. Second, how the hell did you know I liked chocolate chip pancakes?"
"Well, I think the scruff makes me look rugged," Eames muttered, feeling his 5-day-old scruff. "And you only have 3 bags of chocolate chips and 4 boxes of pancake mix in your pantry. Anyone with eyes could see it's your favorite, darling. So go shower."
Arthur glared at him for a moment before swinging his legs over the side of the bed. "I like a lot of chocolate chips in my pancakes. Don't mess it up."
Eames laughed. "I'll make sure it's perfect, just for you." He turned and walked out, humming to himself.
Victory.
---
After a long day dragging Arthur around the town, Eames led Arthur back to the apartment. Arthur had actually loved the zoo; however, that was most likely because Eames let him spend an ungodly amount of time by the elephants; and bought him anything elephant-ish he wanted from the gift shop. Eames knew he was too much of a softy when it came to Arthur, but the man simply turned him into putty.
Upon parking, Eames had texted Ariadne to tell her they had arrived and he was bringing Arthur up. Eames had taken all the bags full of elephant paraphernalia, so as to let Arthur open the door. When Arthur did, everyone popped up--some snapping cameras, others taking videos--all yelling "SURPRISE!" at him.
Arthur gasped, his hand flying to his chest, glancing at Eames--who was smiling so much that he felt like his cheeks were going to burst--and back at the crowd. His mouth opened and closed, and he was unable to form words.
"Happy birthday, love." Eames said, smiling to the crowd. "I told you it wasn't just another day."
"Eames..." Arthur pushed the bags out of his arms, the elephants spilling everywhere on the floor. He took Eames' face in his hands, tugging him into a deep kiss as he cried tears of joy. He pushed his forehead to Eames', letting out a shaky breath.
"....I love you."
