I'm sick of being mopey. Being mopey sucks. I am henceforth ignoring my mopey state. (I reserve the right to mope privately like a dog licking it's wounds.)
Anyone know if there have been any Alice in Wonderland spins on our beloved boys? Because I'd really like something to prevent me from having to seek out this...
It all started with a mysterious comm. Jim had been planning on spending the holiday break with him out in Georgia. But he'd known something was wrong when he'd walked into his room after his duty shift to see Jim sitting on his bed holding his head in his hands.
"Jim?"
Jim tensed for a moment, then he hopped up and gave Leonard a wry grin. "Bones."
"Something wrong?"
"No. Well, not exactly," was Jim's cryptic reply. He rubbed his hand on the back of his neck and began to pace.
"O...kay. Why don't you try and explain it to me?" Leonard said as he sat on the now vacant bed.
Jim never stopped moving and carefully avoided his eyes. "There's just...something I have to take care of at home, which I'm afraid will prevent me from accompanying you to Georgia for the holidays."
Leonard felt apprehension rise along with frustration as he watched Jim move back and forth. "For gods' sake Jim sit down. What's with the formal tone 'prevent me accompanying you to Georgia'? What the hell are you talking about? You sound like you've been summoned by a royal decree."
Jim gave a strained laugh, "Royal decree. Right, good one Bones. Nah, it's just a bit of family trouble that they need my help with. Shouldn't take long. I hope."
"Well, hell, I don't have much in Georgia to hang 'round for. Why don't I go with you?"
Jim apparently hadn't been expecting that. His face took on a panicked expression for a moment. "That's not necessary. Really, not necessary. I can't subject you to that."
"Why not? Can't be any worse than my family. 'Sides, you never talk much about your family. Maybe I can get some background on where you get...this." Leonard said with a wave of his hand.
Jim rolled his eyes. "You just gestured to all of me."
"Yup."
Jim started pacing again, "Seriously Bones there's no need for you to come along. If you did you might end up as crazy as me."
"Now that would be a tragedy. Imagine me, mad as a Hatter."
Jim stilled and looked up at Leonard in alarm.
"Jim, geeze, I was just joking."
Leonard was beginning to think it was a bad idea for Jim to go anywhere in this state.
"I...I have to go. I'll see ya after break Bones." Jim said as he rushed out the door.
"But you haven't even packed! Jim what do you think you're doing? Jim!" Leonard yelled after Jim. 'Oh hell no.' He thought.
He stood and grabbed his shift bag, which held a several changes of clothes and other items that would be convenient for traveling and raced after Jim.

That Jim never noticed Leonard following him was proof of Jim's unsettled state. And also justified Leonard's actions, at least to his own mind. Even more strange, Leonard had no idea where they were going. He'd though that Jim would hop on a transport or get in a queue to, heaven forbid, get a direct beam out. Instead, Jim took a city bus to a wild and unkempt park on the outskirts of town. Jim climbed off the bus and hurried across the grass to a dense area of trees.
Leonard was delayed in his pursuit when he tripped on someone's bag and he had to jog to catch up. He was able to keep Jim in his sight for several minutes, until Jim passed around a very large tree and disappeared.
He broke into a run but still didn't see Jim once he'd cleared the tree. Leonard stopped and spun in place straining his eyes in the hopes of catching some movement to indicate where Jim had gone. He stepped back a pace and suddenly found himself falling.
Ugh I feel so rusty.
I suppose I should be happy I wrote anything but, dammit, I plan on finishing things. This is not finishing anything. In fact I have no clue where this is going. Ideas?
I would say something hopeful about returning muses, but I'm afraid of Jinxing myself. :X Shh!
