I'm trying to get good images of the jewelry Mom's making, but I just can't seem to get it right. I've got images here that I'd appreciate any comment on. Some I've tried to edit, others not; please help!!!

How much macro/jewelry photography are you going to be doing? If it's a fair amount, check ebay for the light cubes. They're good for a nice even diffused light.

If you're just doing a few shots, you want light that won't cast any shadows, but also a nice, soft, neutral background. Velvet or velveteen work well. You'll want to contrast each piece with the background a bit, although you don't want to use muddy or washed out colors. Stick with white and black, and use portable lamps to set up lights on either side of the piece your photographing. Diffuse them through sheets or other thin white material or bounce them off walls (the car sunshade reflectors, the silver ones, work well to bounce light back.)

Let me sleep on it, and see what else I can come up with.

OH! A tripod. Use a tripod.

I'm going to have to take pics of every piece of jewelry as she makes them, to put on our site to sell.

I'm using this kit (that doesn't show everything, but you get the idea). If you go to my link up there in my first post, I've put up four new pics, equipment1 thru equipment4, of what I used and how I used it to do the pics. The problem I have with the tripod is that I can't take a pic looking straight down at the item, it's always at an angle. They have a cool tripod on that tabletopstudio site, but it's $149! I certainly can't do that.

I have beads that have transparent sections that I'd love to show off, like the bead in 001.jpg. That's this bead: blue lace agate (Natural), which doesn't show as well as what I see in front of me.

I want my images to look like these here!!!

pout.

Thank you so much, SO much!

not that I'd have any helpful suggestions. Dumb ideas, sure - got loads of them.

Well that figures. I deleted that directory that night we spoke on the phone, trying to clean up the directories and all. I didn't bother to look at what was in it.

sigh.
