good riddance, part 2

Mar 16, 2005 17:06

today she emailed me to ask if she was going to get paid for her unused vacation time. man, if it were up to me, i'd say OH, HELL NO! unfortunately, i think our agency policy doesn't specifically require a 2-week notice, but you can be sure i'm pushing for that to be changed.

A guy that used to work here put in his 2 weeks, and then said "I'm taking the next 2 weeks off." and took his final 2 weeks as his vacation.
I'm not really sure how that works, but it didn't really go over too well.

And technically, here you don't get vacation until you've been there for a year....so your 2 weeks or whatever are actually from the year before. But, then this other girl quit and wanted her vacation pay and my dad wouldn't give it to her for some reason. Oh! It was because she had been working full time then went to part time so she actually couldn't collect PTO.

I think. It's always a mess, isn't it??

it seems to be.

the thing is, when i quit my last job, which was a soul-killer if ever there was one, i had to give THREE weeks notice in order to receive my unused vacation pay, and despite the fact that i wanted to just walk off the job and tell them all to go fuck themselves, i DID my three weeks. i did it because i had to to get my $$, but also, it was just the right (professional, mature...) thing to do.

i guess i put more stock in that than some people.
