Since we're on the topic of poop.....can you imagine the piles that must come out of that mastiff?? Gives a new meaning to holy crap.
And yay cooper for learning commands! In the life aquatic some guy tells the dog to "be still." so I always say "be still Mojo." It just makes me laugh. And I'm trying to teach him "attack" when we go to see Uncle Stinky.
My cousin has a doberman, and instead of "sit" they say "Charge" and the dog lays down. Totally funny, espeically since it' s a huge doberman.
i can't imagine the messes a mastiff makes. at least cooper's are little, like cat poo.
we saw some beautiful dobermans at the dog show yesterday, and we watched a min-pin run the agility course with such glee and enthusiasm that the entire arena applauded when he finished.
that's SO cool! i never thought about teaching him american sign language! one of the women i work with is fluent in amslan; i may ask her to teach me the signs for the commands i use with cooper.
Big dogs can be really good with little dogs, like you said patient. They seem to realize they are stronger, whereas the little guys still get to believe they are as big and bad as the big guy. You should teach Cooper to roll over. Its easy if he learns to lie down. Hoolie can do it, if you have a treat roll your hand over. He follows. Or you could teach him to play dead. My friend's dog Saydee would play dead if you pretend to shoot her.
every time cooper learns something new i think of 3 other things i want to teach him! since he's started learning commands, i've noticed he's a much more attentive and cooperative fellow. my son says he's probably known this stuff all along, and has just been waiting for us to catch on. :)
Chris and I took his dog to the dog park (where she wanders around by herself not playing with any of the other dogs) and there was this giant mastiff that fell in love with Chris. He petted her once and then every few minutes, until her parents left, she would come back to him for more petting. It was really sweet.
the lady who owns jigs (the mastiff in the pic) got his sister this weekend, and brought her in for us to meet. she's smaller than jigs, but very, very sweet.
I love big dogs, especially fluffy ones, but I'm very nervous around big hyper dogs. I don't like to be jumped on and I get uptight. But, big friendly cuddly dogs are just awesome. Mastiffs are so pretty too.
