Coraline -- yes, it is that good.

Tonight, I went to a near-empty movie theatre.

Coraline is one of the best book-film adaptations I have ever seen. The variations from the book are understandable, and there really aren't that many, in terms of the story. It's still the story of wonderfully brave Coraline Jones, beautifully rendered (and I'm sure a marvel in 3-D).

No, I didn't see it in a 3-D theatre, and even on the plain screen it looked fantastic. Yes, it's animated, but Dakota Fanning did a brilliant job with the voice, giving Coraline a realistic depth. She never overacted (as voice actors are sometimes wont to do), but kept to the very believable tones of an 11 year old girl that nobody wants to listen to.

There will be a change in my mood-theme when the DVD comes out and I can snag more images. It really was that good. And pretty.

Don't let the billing as a 'kid's movie' scare you away (and I will grant, I was at a 9:40 showing... but it only opened yesterday, people! Where are you?!?!) Kids can see it (and probably be less creeped out than adults), but it doesn't insult the adult intelligence, either.

I will be owning the DVD. I may even be going to the theatre again.

Just don't let it be an empty one.
