I didn't expect Evan to turn out so dark and ruthless so quickly, but suddenly I can see the possibility that this isn't his first time using the particular set of lies he told the narrator, and that it's more likely a formula of deception that has worked for him before. :(
That kind of pain of abuse is such a hard thing to deal with. There's no one right solution. And sometimes when the survivor isn't capable of fighting back, it's just incredibly freeing to have someone else who wants to dole out some punishment.
I know you said this is part of a much longer idea, but I really like what you've done with this. It's so sad but engaging, and wow did Evan turn out to be horrible. I'm glad she was able to do what she needed to do, and that there were people there to help her.
