After looking on craigslist.org for employment and an apartment search, I feel like I am never going to be able to afford living in the east bay area. But I know plenty of people who do it. Perhaps I spend too much money on clothes and entertainment. Please tell me, how do you all afford to live? Maybe I am just over-thinking things right now ( Read more... )

I can't really afford to live. I work part time. If I don't find a job I will not pay be able to pay rent. I don't buy clothes but I eat out a lot. Sometimes I buy drugs but really the biggest luxery I afford myself is Sparks. I get tons of DVDs from the library. Books are pretty cool too and they take up a good amount of time. Board games and card games are cheap fun entertainment. A game of Illuminati takes at least two hours. That's all I know.

Those are some really good suggestions -- the full-time work, the library, cheap and fun entertainment.

And no more shopping and eating out a lot. Those are both bad for my body anyway.

One word: roommate(s)! ;)

I don't think I have ever lived on the East Bay without splitting rent with somebody else.

I'm thinking about moving back to the bay area too. Who knows, we might end up bunking up together? lol.

I have spoken to you for ages, btw. I miss you.

ps- Speaking of old HS buddies, I also tried getting in touch with Bryon recently but his Yahoo address bounced back my e-mail! Do you by any chance have his new one or another means of reaching him?

I think I may just use the car to get out to the bay area, and then ditch it. But then again it's paid off, the liability-only insurance is really cheap, and I may need it for various road trips and such. I don't plan on commuting to work or school and I am going to bring a bike so I should save a lot on fuel living out there (public transporation here is severely lacking. Midwesterners REALLY love their vehicles... most of which are SUVs. Ugh.).

Good idea about the food and roomies, thanks for the tips.

When do you plan on moving back? I think I am going to have to just rent a room from someone until I get a "real" job and am able to pay for my own place. Which pretty much means I'll be living in someone else's home for the rest of my life... at least it feels that way. Let me know when you're going back; my goal is to be there by Mid-July to early August. I miss you too, Shirls!

As for Bryon, I have no idea! I sent him an email a while ago and, although it hasn't bounced back to me, I still have yet to receive a response.
