Well, I am totally feeling my way through Photoshop, but had an epiphany over the weekend regarding layers. This icon resulted, plus a cover for my (as yet unwritten) Vegas tag. I can totally see this becoming an obsession.

I love the faded and washed look and double thanks for linking to the tutorial, though looking at it makes my head spin. *sigh* But I so want to do stuff like this.

BTW - what layout style are you using for this journal? I'm curious since that's the size you did the header for right? For my current layout, It needs to be 940 wide, so just curious what to switch to ;)

Ah I knew there was something I was forgetting! I use this template. It's pretty easy to customise the colours and make little tweaks here and there using the FAQ. Glad you like the graphic :). You really should try out the tut. It's easier than it looks and the steps are explained really well. I'd recommend doing the tut as it is before customising it to your own graphics as there is a lot to take in. Have fun!
