Ok. For my crafting time and place class, I have to come up with 10 of my favorite opening and closing lines to novels. I scoured my bookshelves and these are what I came up with. Now, let's hear yours. I won't necessarily use them if you don't want me to, but I'm interested in getting a discussion started. So, let's discuss.

"If you're going to read this, don't bother." --Chuck Palahniuk, Choke. It's great cause it makes the defiant part in you wanna read any way.

Of course, there is the famous opening line from The Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka:

"Gregor Samsa awakes one morning to find that he has been inexplicably transformed into a giant insect."

I think you should put down "Call me Ishmael." From Moby Dick as a joke. *L* But, great choices! I agree with the Vampire Lestat one. And as for the 10th one you should really pick. I'm going with Joyce on this one. *glomps* Miss you Mimi!

Only as a joke *blech* I hated that book more than life itself. And the sad thing is, I read it for fun :( Joyce, I thought about. I looked in Dubliners, and Finnegan's Wake. (which are the only Joyce books I own) I absolutely love the opening for Finnegan's Wake, and should have included it. "Drive westwards outvof Dublin, keeping south of Phoenix Park, and you will come to the Chapelizod. The name means "Chapel of Iseult", whom the Irish know as Isoilde and the Germans as Isolde-- tragic heroine of Wagner's opera. There is little that is romantic abouit the Chapelizod nowadays; if you want a minimal excitement you will have to go to the pubs, of which the most interesting is purely fictional-- the Bristol." ^_^ I like that. It's funny.
