I thought that it would be awkward, no matter what or who turned up. But I thought at least someone should take care of him and I felt Harry or the Order would provide for it. Harry felt the best choice for me.

For me, I felt something like this did happen in canon (which is another reason why I wrote it). We jumped directly from the end of the battle to 19 years later. Stuff had to happen in between and I felt the reason for the time skip was that JKR wanted to leave it open so the fans could fill it in with their own ideas.

Until she tells me that the death eaters stole the body and desecrated it after he died, I'm going to say that this happened. At least for me.
