Sherlock Review

Not sure if anyone here watches Sherlock, but I thought I'd post my review of yesterday's episode here just in case anyone else wanted to discuss.

For the most part I liked it. I’ve always liked it, ever since I stumbled upon the last few minutes of the first episode on PBS in 2010 and then rented the miniseries as a whole a few months later. It’s ( Read more... )

I reviewed it too and didn't really like it, but you know me and Moffat lol so that's probably no surprise. I felt like the whole plot boiled down to eye-sex. And I completely agree with your comments about Irene and sexuality - but that's really how Moffat writes romance, so I guess it's just par for the course. Props for you for being able to overlook that - an ability I lack lol. But I'm looking forward to Gatiss's ep next time!

I wrote that review mere minutes after watching Sherlock and of course in hindsight I am rethinking my opinion on a lot of things. Mostly just Irene though. It really bothers me how sexual Moffat made her as if that's where her power came from. It's just goes back to the whole issue that you can't have someone like Hilary Clinton as president, she's a dried up old bitch, but here comes Sarah Palin and Ooooo Weeee so hot, let's make her our vice president. I hate that stereotype. Women can be powerful w/o having to be sexual creatures. If she's Sherlock's female equivalent then why not have her asexual as well. Why does he get to be the virgin and her the slut. Meh.

Also the only other main interest for Sherlcok in the series is Molly and she is completely un-sexual and Sherlock barely even notices her, so in a sense she is not powerful, because she has no sex appeal (I won't go into the whole Sherlock/Watson thing, because I'm talking in canon).

The whole things is just leaving a bad taste in my mouth.

I find that he does that a lot =/ ... for me personally, it has the effect of totally poisoning my enjoyment of stuff he writes. Like even if it's not SEX-sexual (like Madge in the DW Xmas special), there's always that gender aspect that lingers (like her power-of-the-uterus being what saves the day).

I feel like such a Debbie Downer sometimes lol, because whenever he writes a script, that stuff tends to permeate it, and I can't help but see it and be annoyed by it >.< ... so tl;dr lol, I completely understand what you're saying!
