You might have been dehydrated after being in the sun all day. I think that would definitely make the alcohol hit you differently than you're used to.

Personally I couldn't live by these. Except #10. EVERYONE should live by #10.

(Although I'll note that #15 is necessary for #10 to work as intended.)
