So much happening and I just haven't had much time to update, so here's a list of assorted happy things that are currently making me joyful :)
Ohh Emm Gee BEST HAIRCUT EVAR!!1!!!!111!!!1
A few months ago I spent an afternoon with Tara and I noticed how completely amazing her hair looked. Normally she straightens it, but this day it was thick and curly and completely gorgeous. When I asked her about it she told me about this place in SoHo called
Devachan. It's a salon that specializes in cutting and managing curly hair. They discourage you from shampooing your hair ever, they sell a product called No-Poo. Basically the theory is that you can cleanse your scalp by massaging it with water and conditioner and that the damage done to hair by detergents is particularly disastrous when dealing with curly hair. Tara had been using their products for a while and let me tell you, the difference was obvious, I was completely sold. Of course, this place is expensive so I was reluctant to go, I decided that now that I have my new job I should treat myself. I went last Thursday and I can't tell you how amazing my hair looks. It's the best salon experience I've ever had, well worth the $85 + tip. The stylist cut my hair dry. He didn't just start hacking with the scissors, he fluffed it and examined it from across the room and then proceeded to cut each lock separately. He pulled every curl apart and snipped the end with three cuts. This was a surgical process. After the cut came the hair massage. They don't just put you in a chair with your head in a sink, they have a special hair-washing person dedicated to you. You lay down on this chaise-lounge type thing with your head in the sink and you get about a 15 minute scalp and hair massage. She explained all the products to me and taught me how I should be washing my hair. After this she taught me how to dry and style my hair. They don't use towels, they say the terry material pulls apart your curls and makes your hair frizzy, they recommend paper towels or a t-shirt. Throughout all of this they brought me champagne glasses full of beverages. After my hair was dry the stylist came back to do some final tweaking and give me recommendations for products and when I should come back for another cut. The whole experience was incredible and I really wish I could convey to you how amazing my hair looks. I've washed it once since last week and I wished I hadn't, that was the only day my hair didn't look gorgeous and shiny.
Bonnaroo Artist Additions!
The Streets are going to be at Bonnaroo! *bounce* One more reason for me to be terribly excited about that! Bill actually bought his tickets last week and was approved for the time off work so I don't have to go by myself this year. *double bounce*
moe.down 2006!!!!!
I just got the time off approved for moe.down 2006 so I purchased my ticket. This was a great time last year, I'm psyched to be going back. Hopefully when it gets closer I can con more people into going with me.
Debt!
OK, this isn't usually a happy thing, but last week I took out a debt consolidation loan. Hopefully I can finally make some headway on paying off my damn credit card bills. It's a 7 year loan, but if I pay extra every month hopefully I can shorten that a bit. I'm just happy to have it all in one place and be on a path to being debt-free in the foreseeable future. Yay me, debt free!
Sexy Hardware!
I got my Dell Dual 3.4GHz server :) I hooked it up last week but I haven't really had time to install much. It's really nice, I can't wait to play with it. It has 2 160 GB harddrives in it and 2GB of RAM. w00t! I'm still waiting for the monitor and KVM switch so I can set up my whole environment. I think I've decided that I'm going to go with the brilliant idea I got that I can put my kitchen table in storage since I never use it and move my office into the kitchen so I might actually have room to entertain in my living room. I figure if I get a good-sized table I'll have room for all my computer equipment AND my sewing machine so I'll have a craft workspace as well. If I play my cards right, I might even be able to keep both computers and monitors hooked up so I can run dual-mon and use my old PC as a file/print server. Yay rearranging furniture! I'm gonna have to con my guy friends into helping me move out the table :P
IKEA!!
If you live in New York City you know what an exciting adventure going to Ikea is. Most people don't have cars, so when one person does and they decide to go to Ikea, it usually becomes a family affair. Thomas, Sorena and Ivan came to my hood Sunday afternoon for some brunch at The Lazy Catfish, then we hopped in my car to trek out to that Swedish Mecca in Jersey. As we were nearing the Williamsburg Bridge, one of my new coworkers Miguel called to check up on me and make sure I was doing OK with the job when I mentioned we were on our way to Ikea. He expressed dismay that he didn't know sooner, I said we were about to drive right by his apartment could he be ready in 10 minutes? Hell yeah, the more the merrier. Damn I love that place. I investigated some office options, got a few ideas, but nothing solid. I did, however, acquire the cutest friggin lights for my newly redecorated bedroom. They are dragonflies with white LED lights inside them! SQUEE!!! I love them, I got two strands and hung them in front of my windows kind of like a valance. My bedroom is pretty much complete now, I'll have to take pictures once I wash my new pillow shams and get everything put together.
Miguel had never been to Brooklyn, so after Ikea we spent some time hanging out at some of my favorite places in my neighborhood.
Roebling Tea Room of course, and then
Union Pool. We ate lots of yummy food at Roebling, so no room for
Alligator Lounge, but that'll be for next time.
Crocodile Lounge!
Speaking of Alligator Lounge, the owner recently opened Crocodile Lounge on 14th Street in Manhattan :) Same deal with the free pizza and they even have Big Buck Hunter II! Now when I'm looking for a chill place to hangout in the East Village there is yet another option :)
OK, that's about it for now methinks, I'm tired of staring at my laptop :P
