I have spent the past month recuperating after the year of touring and promotion. It is taking longer and longer each time to get back to level ground in my head after the tours. If you didn't hear, I announced at my Paris gig in December that it would be my last live show. The press has made light of my words, saying I am only retiring a persona

Retiring a persona sounds very sexy and rock 'n' roll. Good luck with that, and I hope you don't find yourself missing it and wanting to go back to it at odd times. All sorts of things happened as a result of that Peel tribute show, didn't they?

I added you to my list of people to talk to when the opportunity arises.

The original intent was an announcement of the end of our tour, and the last Libertines show ever. It got misinterpreted and I found a kind of peace with the misinterpretation. I think I would go mad not being on the road, I love the bus and the gypsy lifestyle. I am sure you understand. It is the best and the worst way to live and we get paid to do it.

The Peel gig was amazing and I am so happy I was able to be there. What other things happened because of the Peel show? I remember seeing Damon Albarn and your ex bandmate Graham there but I don't recall seeing you. I know Blur is getting ready to release a new album, so I doubt you are breaking up. You have me intrigued. I hope the opportunity does arise.

I should be around this weekend; I am hoping to have some free time while in Australia.

You really not playing live anymore? I'd find that hard, despite the touring exhaustion, but I understand when people want to move on. Every time I say I'm through with a tour, I end up playing random gigs here and there. You'll always be making music, though. Even when I'm too old to strum a guitar, I'll still be drumming my fingers on my old man knees.
