the one we screwed up moving up here is -- sort things *before* you move them, and get rid of the ones you don't want so you don't have to move them to the new place and then move them out again. (6 years on and we still have crap boxed up we never sorted. ack.)
If you have time, start a goodbye box. Its for stuff you think you don't need, but are not ready to get rid of just yet. If you don't need it after x period - it goes. Goal is to reduce clutter.
You need 150% of the number of boxes you think you might possibly use. Walls and walls of boxes. 3 rolls of packing tape to close the boxes. Also get a couple of boxes full of hefty garbage bags for the final push. If you don't use 'em, hey, hefty bags don't go bad. You know what I wonder? Why did I use boxes for stuff like clothes and towels that was born to go in a bag? Boxes are for books. If you can, take out the drawers of your stuff and bring them along whole, so your system can just be reassembled at the end
