That was an evocative and compelling read. I look forward to the next part.
Incidentally, Alethea (spelled differently from your version) has been on my list of baby names, too. I love the meaning and significance that name has in Greek mythology. :-)
Oh, and I just remembered -- wasn't it Valerie a few years ago? The name of your future daughter, that is...?

in the language of dreams - there is almost no exposition because things simply understood in the dream would sound utterly alien to an outside observer
Here is a quote from Mark Twain's own account of his experiences in what he called "mental telegraphy":
both of us knew that Agnes was not a name, but only a pet name, a common noun, whose spirit was affectionate, but not conveyable with exactness in any but the dream-language. It was about the equivalent of "dear," but the dream-vocabulary shaves meanings finer and closer than do the world's daytime dictionaries. We did not know why those words should have those meanings; we had used words which had no existence in any known language, and had expected them to be understood, and they were understood.
If lucid dreams and their phenomenology interests you, you might find my journal interesting. I don't know what the best way to get acquainted with it is, but the user info points in a few directions...

Been meaning to add you and converse with you a bit more ...
are you using your LJ as a one-way vehicle to document/share your lucid dreams, or have you conversed with others and made RL connections with fellow travelers in this realm?

The other odd dream I've had is a fictional (far as I know) older brother who I broke bread with earlier this year.
