I'm bored at work for a change (been a while since that's happened; I forgot how annoying it can be. The day is DRAGGING by), so I thought I'd do this TV meme I saw earlier in the week at
selenak's LJ.
Name a TV show series in which you have seen every episode at least twice:
Friends is probably the only one. I've seen most eps of Buffy and Angel multiple times, but not all, especially the later seasons. I've probably come close on The Cosby Show, as that was my all-time favorite growing up, and I watched a lot of it in syndication. Same for Three's Company. :)
Name a (current) show you can't miss:
LOST would be #1 on that list. Also Bones and Castle and about 20 others. Though most other shows I don't freak out if the DVR doesn't record them, sine I can watch online later. LOST Is probably the only one I have to watch live or someone will die. ;) I'm also addicted to all the Ghost Hunters shows and House Hunters International. Just to add some variety.
Name an actor that would make you more inclined to watch a show:
Most of the LOST cast is a pretty good guarantee for me, and anyone from a Joss show (Buffy/Angel especially, though I tend to like Nathan Fillion on anything, too). I don't normally watch shows for actors, though. For example, as much as I loved Moonlight and Alex O'Laughlin, I didn't follow him to that Three Rivers show because I'm so sick of medical dramas. Same goes for crime dramas most of the time. Generally, if someone I really liked on an old show is going to be on a new one, unless the show's premise sounds really boring, I'll give it a shot. But I don't necessarily stick with it just because I like an actor/actress.
Name an actor who would make you less likely to watch a show:
I do this more with movies (Will Ferrell and Seth Rogan come to mind), but some TV actors annoy me enough that I might not be as inclined to watch something they're on. Steve Carrell is one, and we don't watch 30 Rock because Tracy Morgan is so irritating. I'd probably like that one otherwise, but I just can't deal with him. Mostly it's comedians who I don't find funny. I figure if I don't like their comedy, I probably won't like any show they do. And I doubt I'd ever watch a show with David Caruso again, after suffering through so many seasons of CSI: Miami, which I watch despite him and his obnoxious posing.
Name a show you can, and do, quote from:
Friends. I know most of those episodes by heart. Buffy/Angel aren't too far behind it, though I don't really quote any TV shows that often. Not out loud. In my head, sure, and maybe in writing. My dad and I often quote Seinfeld, especially the Soup Nazi episode. We do the "No [soup or whatever else fits the situation - for you. Come back one year!" all the time. Oh, and Monty Python's Flying Circus. We both quote that at each other a lot, too.
Name a show you like that no one else enjoys:
I don't know, really. I have a bad habit of loving new shows that soon get canceled, if that counts. A few years ago, the WB had a show called Tarzan that I really, really loved, but it got canned pretty fast. I also really liked that show, Valentine that the CW had on last season. I'm not sure anyone else watched it, but it was cute. And most recently, Eastwick. Oh, and Better off Ted is hilarious, but I'm not sure many people watch it. They should!
Name a TV show which you've been known to sing the theme song:
I'm a terrible singer, so I don't actually sing any theme songs, but I guess Friends. I know all the words, even to the extended version.
Name a show you would recommend everyone to watch:
That's on right now... Besides LOST (which if you aren't already watching, you have a lot of catching up to do if you're going to know what the hell's going on), I'd say Castle, which most of my f-list probably already watches. It's funny and clever and the Castle/Kate dynamic is fantastic. Plus, it reminds me eerily of the "In Death" book series by J.D. Robb that I really love. (Stana Katic would make a spot-on Eve Dallas. It's kind of creepy.)
Name a TV series you own:
Friends is the only one I own complete so far. Well, except for series that aren't finished yet. I have all the seasons so far of LOST and The Big Bang Theory OH! That's another show I'd recommend. Yes! BBT is THE FUNNIEST SHOW EVER. Okay, maybe not ever, but that's on right now? Hell yes. I haven't laughed so hard at a TV show since Friends. Um... I got stidetracked there. I also have a majority of the Buffy/Angel seasons, but not all. And the complete series of Monty Python's Flying Circus.
What is your favourite episode of your favourite series?
Oh boy. I have to pick a favorite series? Eek. I don't know if I can do that, so I'll pick a couple. My favorite ep of Friends is probably "The One With the Embryos" because it's such a great ensemble episode. It's the one where they make up a game show about each other and play to prove who knows who better, and the girls end up losing their apartment to the boys. Also, it's the episode when Phoebe finds out she's pregnant, starting the hilarious storyline of Phoebe having her brother's babies. But there are at on of others I loved, so it's hard to say that's my favorite. For Buffy, my favorite is probably "Hush" because it was so awesome. And for LOST... I don't really know. Probably the pilot. It's what got me hooked, and I can still watch it and find things I didn't notice the first however many times. And my all-time favorite Cosby episode is one where the family lip-synched Ray Charles for his parents' anniversary. Not the whole episode, just that part, because it was so damn funny.
A show you mean to watch, but you just haven't gotten around to yet:
I'm not sure this counts, but Dexter. CBS aired the first season during the writer's strike and I've been meaning to rent the DVDs for the others, but haven't gotten around to it yet.
Ever quit watching a show because it was so bad?
Usually once I'm invested in a show, I never quit, no matter what. I stopped watching ER after a while because all the original people were gone. And I quit a few WB/CW shows after a few seasons because I lost interest, like One Tree Hill and Gossip Girl. After a while I realized that I didn't really care if I missed those, so I stopped recording them. Also, I quit watching General Hospital after about 10 years because the writing got so annoying. I've started watching again, somewhat, because one of the actors I like came back (and out of curiosity to see what James Franco was going to do), but I'm not sure I'll stick with it.
Name a show you aren't interested in watching, not in the least:
I'm with Selena on this one: 24. I watched the pilot and never watched another episode. Also, most of the medical shows and all of the Law & Orders.
Name a show that's made you cry multiple times:
I'm embarrassed to admit this, but just about all the WB dramas, especially the finales. Doctor Who has made me cry more than once as well.
Oldest TV show you like?
Hm. My oldest favorite show is The Cosby Show. Oldest is probably Monty Python's Flying Circus, though I was known to watch some Mister Ed or Bewitched when I was younger. :) I also like The Honeymooners, though it's been forever since I saw that one.
Newest TV show you like?
Out of the shows that premiered this season, I don't really have any favorites. I like some, but none are obsession-worthy. I guess Cougar Town. Newest show that I really, REALLY like would be Castle, but that's already in it's 2nd season.
What do you eat when you watch TV?
Snack stuff. Chips, popcorn, that kind of thing. Sometimes ice cream or cookies if I'm in a sweets mood.
How often do you watch TV?
Every night, from 8-11, though sometimes we start at 7 and watch stuff that's recorded. And I'll watch my own TiVO recordings in the afternoons sometimes as well. Basically, I watch a lot. It's what my family does for evening entertainment.
Do you have a favorite talk show?
Not really. Oprah's okay, and sometimes Ellen is funny. Late night, my favorite would be Letterman, but I haven't watched in years.
What's the last TV show you watched?
What did was watch last night? Um... oh. Cougar Town, I think. We were watching DVR shows, and after watching last week's Gray's Anatomy (we're a week behind on that one), we needed a half-hour show to fill the rest of the time.
What's your favourite/preferred genre of TV?
I kind of watch everything. I like the sci-fi/fantasy genre, but I also watch a lot of dramas and some sitcoms. And I love the competition reality shows (except for the dating ones. I hate those.)
What's your least favourite genre of TV?
The sappy reality shows, like Extreme Home Makeover and the weight loss ones. A lot of the crime/police shows. CSI is kind of the exception with those.
What was the first TV show you were obsessed with?
When I was little, Thursdays were my favroite nights because of The Cosby Show, but I'm not sure I was obsessed. Probably my first TV obsession was Friends, which oddly enough, I didn't start watching until the 2nd season. Same with Buffy, which was probably a close second, time-wise. Though there were probably cartoons when I was younger that I was obsessed with. I can't seem to remember now.
What TV show do you wish you never watched?
I don't know if I have one of those. If I didn't like a show, I just stopped watching it. Though there are a few seasons of The Celebrity Apprentice that I'm embarrassed to say I watched, and wish I hadn't. Like the last one. And I'm starting to wonder about Heroes, which makes me sad.
What's the weirdest show you enjoyed?
Fringe is kind of weird. And Ally McBeal was rather goofy, but I loved it.
What TV show scared you the most?
Usually movies scare me, but there have been a few episodes of Doctor Who that were pretty scary. Blink comes to mind first. And the ones with the freaky kids in the gas masks, the name of which fails me right now. Also the Children of Earth miniseries of Torchwood was rather disturbing.
What is the funniest TV show you have ever watched?
Either Friends or Monty Python's Flying Circus, though Big Bang Theory is coming up pretty close behind them.
Which do you think is the best TV series ever made?
That one's too hard to pick. Best ever is a big deal. Part of me wants to say LOST just because it's so awesome. :) And I still think Buffy never got enough credit, but I'm not sure it's "best ever" material. Best comedy is between Friends and Seinfeld, though I would still say The Cosby Show was one of the best shows out there. Not just comedy-wise, but everything. It was a great family show.
Whew. Now I'm tired from all the italics tags, and my head hurts. Time to wrap things up at work and go home.
