Hi all, apparently Polly did an interview and played a new song back in April on the BBC. The song she played was Let England Shake, which someone in this community posted about a little whiles back. Anyways, she spoke about the new album some in the interview (transcription taken from this site):

“I’ve written about half of my new record on one ( Read more... )

Cool, thanks for sharing. I'm excited for a new solo album-- I saw her with John Parrish when they toured together last year, and it just didn't quite hit the spot.

Ha, same here! I've been a PJH fan for over 10 years now, and the tour for A Woman A Man Walked By is the only time I've gotten to see her live, since apparently she lost interest in playing my corner of the southeast US not too long after I found her music. I moved though, which is how I got to see her last year, but yeah, it just wasn't the same as hearing her PJH songs would be.

Thanks for bringing this to my attention.

Shows how intelligent PJ is! I rarely see interviews with her, it's great.

Also, on her constantly putting herself in new places and new territory to produce work that goes beyond comfort levels really does avoid her getting redundant. Hate to say it but that's been the case with anything Tori Amos has done post Strange Little Girls.

Oh man, seriously! Tori and PJ used to be my all-time favorites, and now I've pretty much given up on Tori. I tend to think of To Venus and Back as being her last great adventurous album, though Strange Little Girls definitely has its moments.

Right?! I think conceptually Strange Little Girls is rather interesting, to take male-driven songs and recreate/reclaim them. Her "multiple persona" approach was also more understandable and distilled than other attempts by her.

Glad you agree! XD

That's true, the conceptual aspect did work well on that album... and it was certainly more successful with the persona thing than American Doll Posse. I did like how conceptual all of her albums of the 00s were, it's just that they started getting boring sonically. Though I do have to say that I did love Scarlet's Walk when it came out--the songs just don't hold my attention anymore when I listen to them. I do wonder a little bit that if she hadn't continued going for a poppier sound after wards if I would like Scarlet's Walk a little more now.

Also, is your username a Goldfrapp reference?

Thanks for sharing, I had no idea it existed. Haha, it's weird to hear PJ sample another song... has she ever done that before? I have all her albums and b-sides and I can't recall her doing that before.

Yeah, that totally caught me off guard... though I guess she's really good at doing that, isn't she? I'm not sure how I feel about the song and her use of the looping, but I'm curious how the album version will sound.

And the only instance I can think of where she's used a sample is in the cover of Zaz Turned Blue she did with Eric Feldman--the beat on that is taken from Glory Box by Portishead. Of course, now that I've said that I have this nagging feeling I'm forgetting another song...

Not exactly a sample, but... blackdove24 June 8 2010, 03:18:06 UTC
Apparently the "Where'd your father go, where'd your father go?" bit from Nina in Ecstasy is from another song, as is the "big fish, little fish, swimming in the water..." bit from Down by the Water, as can be seen on this site.
(They don't have the interpolation of I'm Gonna Wash That Man Right Outta My Hair from Sheela-Na-Gig there though, or Zaz Turned Blue...)
