My external hard drive had died. =( I have lost all of my newer stories. The SPN tarot cards. Any photoshop items I was working on. Newer icons. All my music. My fonts and brushes. The comic pages, both lettered and unlettered ones ( Read more... )

OH NOES! Is there any way you can save any of it? Maybe one of those computer ppl can still salvage some stuff?

I am told that if I take it to best buy they can salvage at least 50% of the info on the drive. If I send it away to some other company, they can save, guaranteed, 100% of the info.

The bad news? Best Buy will do it for $1500 and the other place for $3200. Yeah..... so not happening. The cheapest place we could find will do it for $1300 with no guarantee that they'll get anything off of it. But we'd still have to pay even if they can't pull the info. Blargh.

:-( This is tragic! ;_; Is there no chance at all of data recovery?

Yes and no on the recovery. I could have it done but I can't afford to shell out over a grand to do it. =(

That's horrible! I think it's criminal to charge people that much to recover data! ... This reminds me: susannaheanes recently nearly lost everything on her computer. It wasn't functioning at all, she thought it was dead, and the company who made the comp couldn't guarantee that they could fix the computer and warned that if that were the case, she'd lose all her data because they'd just replace the whole thing without recovering anything for her. She had someone near her house recover her data just in case before she sent it off to be fixed... Anyway, my point is, you might want to check with her just in case that someone might be able to hook you up with cheaper data recovery.
