I have a question and I am not trying to start a religious debate or anything I'm just curious.

When did Placebo go all Jesus is love?

Any links to clue me in?

I have been in the weirdest Placebo mourning lately... listening to all the albums in chronological order and such.

No links just more a few song choices and one of the short thingies on Once More With Feeling and I keep running into Jesus is love t-shirts on ebay when I'm looking for Placebo stuff.

I'm going backwards. I started out with Meds and now I'm getting into their debut album so I've been listening to them in reverse I guess :)

I think they have those shirts cause Brian wore a 'God Is Love' shirt on their Come Home musicvideo.

I feel bad for newer fans [myself included] cause, to be honest, nowadays most of the Placebo stuff on ebay is shite.

Oooh ok so is that a few people thought they'd jump on the god bandwagon sort of thing?

I only buy the dvd's and cd's since I can't get most ofo them here. I haven't even bothered to look at anything else.

Hah? What do you mean, exactly?

Their songs? cause they did kinda have a Jesus phase. 'Jesus Loves Me,' 'Little Mo [tonight Jesus love you],' 'Personal Jesus' cover..

Unless it's something else..which would be interesting.

*blinks* They did?

Well that would explain a few song choices. I was watching the Death of Nancy Boy thingy or whatever it's called on Once More With Feeling and Brian was waffling on about a picture of Jesus in the studio when they started Meds (I think it was)and while I knew several songs of theirs like I Feel You and the Kate Bush cover were religious I was just curious if the band as a whole were into the whole Jesus is love thing and do they preach it at their concerts at all?

They did Personal Jesus too? Manson did that one as well.

Oh dear, I'm afraid I have misled you.

1st, their 'Jesus phase' wasn't really a phase--I used the term very loosely just to describe that handful of rare songs they had that concerned Jesus. Sorry.

2nd, I think they were kinda just being sarcastic & mocking in their songs because I know that Brian doesn't like religion, or maybe just Christianity, specifically [he stated that in an interview, I believe]. He used to be made to go to church when he was young, but as he grew older he stopped going [like me] because he didn't agree with the church's principles [gay marriage issues, etc.]. In short, Placebo weren't seriously advocating Christianity.

As for I Feel You & RUTH..I never really considered them religious songs..

Ooooh ok cos I had this utterly horrid feeling he was Born Again Christian and no offence to anyone but I've not got a happy track record with those people so I had something of a knee jerk reaction to the idea of Placebo or Brian being Born Again. This is my bad.

Ah actually *blushes* I feel better knowing that cos I loath having religion force fed to me and by the sounds of it I hardly think Brian is likely to be doing that.

I think it's safe to say we can ignore this whole discussion now *blushes*

I believe the red tshirt is a relic from the old official Placebo fanclub...and as people have said, that's derrived from the Come Home Video.

As for the other religious stuff, it's sort of tongue in cheek. I mean, even on meds Lazarus is a bible reference. Brian mentions in early interviews that his mother was like a bible thumper and he would go to church and have to listen to them say how his life was wrong etc, that's when he turned away from it.

Anyway, they're not pro, and not anti. They just have a general opinion and idea of their own beliefs put forward, sometimes with reference to the bible
