After receiving numerous questions about how to do things around here, we decided it was high time we explained things for those of you having serious problems. And so we bring to you...
Plagiarism Haven for Dummies, a Tutorial
For those of you who just have general concerns on how to use LiveJournal, we would like to point you to the site's
FAQ. There you will find all of the basics, like using italics, posting images, sharing links, all of that fun stuff. Please do not ask us how to do this. LJ has already answered your questions in an incredibly helpful way. Take advantage of it.
Moving on to the specifics of PH:
As all of you are used to navigating FP, we know this is kind of a nasty switch to make. I think all of the mod have been on LiveJournal for a while, which is a large part of the reason we chose to move our work here. The idea of something we could moderate had a nice ring to it as well.
But for those of you who are having trouble navigating PH, here are some helpful hints.
We really need all of you to enable your PM feature. To do so, from the top of the LJ home page, look under 'profile.' Select 'edit profile,' and scroll until you reach the section labeled 'Contact Info.' The third item down is the LJ User Messaging, and we need you to make sure yours is marked as 'registered users.' We have tried to respond to many of you, but simply cannot, because you have not enabled this feature. So if you don't hear back from us, that's why. Also, it may be important for us to contact you in the future, and PM here is more convenient than hunting for your email address. Nobody else is going to PM you, we promise.
Also, please do not PM any of the posting authors who aren't moderators with your requests and problems with joining. They are not moderators, and thus cannot help you out. Please stick to PMing me,
moreta,
winkyp and
preludity.
As most of you are well aware, you were able to put stories and authors on alert. Well, guess what? You can do the same thing here! Under each post, at the far right it will say 'track comments.' There are three options, but if you're looking to follow a specific author or story, the middle one is what you're looking for. Select it, and choose which tag you'd like (ie: author:samanthanicole). Then, whenever I post, you would get an email. If you're looking for a specific story, select the tag for that particular story. Now you'll get emails telling you your favorite stories have been updated!
If you look to the far left of the screen, you will see a section labeled 'entry tags.' Beneath are listed every tag we have used so far. If you're looking for a particular kind of story, click the appropriate 'genre' tag, and the page will refresh with only entries tagged as 'drama,' or 'romance,' or whatever you selected. Same goes for a particular author or story.
All livejournal layouts are different, obviously, so sometimes it's a bit tricky to figure out where the button is to leave a comment. Here, at PH, you can select the 'speak' button at the bottom of each entry to do so. Mod posts we generally disable them, which is why you can't comment.
Don't forget to drop at least someone here a comment. We are keeping continual tabs on everyone, and if we see you aren't being active, we will be going through and deleting people. Just a friendly reminder for those of you who decided to join and thought you could get away with remaining silent as you had before. We took a leap of faith in letting many of you in, so you need to prove that our effort was worth it. We'll give it a couple of weeks while you guys get used to how things work over here, but after that, there will be no room for excuses. And once you're out, we will not be offering second chances.
If you are going to be going on any extended vacation, we would like to know about it (this is for your benefit, so we don't delete you). Please send one of us a PM and let us know how long you'll be gone for.
I think that about covers it. Hope this was helpful!
