Mod Post: PH Questions

Aug 09, 2009 21:38

PH members and potential PH members, this is your chance to ask your PH-related questions right here!

I can't speak for the other moderators, but I keep seeing the same questions in my inbox over and again. So I've decided to answer your questions publicly, and hopefully some of you guys will understand things better. Fair warning: I just might ( Read more... )

Hii :)
I just wanted to ask, is it really important to have an FP account, to be able to be accepted into this group? Because I've included other info, like my facebook and email...or is the reason that I haven't been added yet because you guys have been busy and haven't gotten around to it?
Sorry, I don't mean to rush you or anything, I was just wondering
Thanks!

No, it's not necessarily important to have a FP account, although if you had reviewed us in the past, that really helps you a lot.

I've checked our Excel file and I see only your email address. The lack of information is what holds us back from adding you. That, and we don't have a solid feel for your personality. What are you like? Etc, etc.

That sounds a little strange, but this PH community is really more interactive and more personal, so we end up getting to know each other.

Ohh, thanks! :)
So what can I do about this? Do I PM you guys with some more information about myself?

Yep. You can pick one of us moderators.

You read my mind... How can I PM you?
For example... I read the post where you said we had to notice you in case we were leaving for vacations or something like that. Well, I went on vacations and decided to PM to let you (or anyother mod) know about that. Well, I couldn't do it.
Also, I don't mind giving you all my information, but I just need to know how to give to you. And what're you gonna do with that?

You click on my Livejournal name "moreta" and it'll lead you to my journal. Click the "user info" for me. Then you'll see the "send message" option.

Or you could just hold your mouse over my icon picture, and you'll see the "send message" option.

Failing that, you simply PM me via FP or email me.

Once we have your information, we enter it into our Excel file. Then we leave your information to sit in our Excel file until there's a pressing reason for us to contact you for some reason. Otherwise, we do absolutely nothing with your information.

Hi! :)
I "applied"/gave you my information a few weeks ago, and I still haven't been accepted. I was just wondering why that is. Should I just be patient and wait until you guys burrow through all the applications, or is there something missing?
Thanks!

According to the members spreadsheet, you currently are on the list of potential members. Have you reviewed anyone besides Myrika, and do you have any other links to offer, e.g. Facebook and MySpace? That would help a lot :)

I don't really remember if I've reviewed anyone else; Myrika is the only author for whom I have a clear memory of updating.

I certainly do have other links to offer! My Myspace link is http://www.myspace.com/lilmzsmartipantz, and my Facebook is http://www.facebook.com/angelapwen. Thanks!

All right, the links should do it.

Just make sure that you did click that "join" button, and you're good to go with our next batch :)

Ditto to the question above me. Just wanted to know if you're still in the process of accepting people or if I'm missing some criteria. Sorry if this is the wrong place to ask this though! Figured I'd try before you got bombarded with questions! I do appreciate all the effort you guys are putting into this!

I'm sympathetic to your situation, as I know you've applied a few times. I had just actually approved your application, but unfortunately that was right after we did our last massive add, so that's why you didn't get in.

However, you should be in the next adding batch :) We are still accepting members.

Not sure where Louisa's comment went but... jenrad84 August 10 2009, 15:30:35 UTC
(TO Moreta:) Thanks for the reply. I also got a reply from Louisa saying tht it might be that my SamanthaNicole review for BBD was holding me up. I'm not sure where her post went on this site, but it took me to this page soooo...in response to Preluity:

(To Preludity): Louisa, thanks for the response. I thought I had reviewed BBD because I usually review all stories I read, but maybe I missed BBD. It might be under "JEN", but I know I did review the stories below and they should be under JenRad11.

I have reviewed Myrika's "Still Waters", "Trouble Starts with Q", "Reason and Romance", "RR Redux", and I think "Against all Odds" also, and I've reviewed Deena's "Hiring a Hooligan".

Thanks!

Jen

Actually, I can't find any reviews from you. Are you sure that you actually did review these stories? Or perhaps you just read instead of reviewing? :)

I have different questions that I would love to a have answers for. I'm currently a member and am wondering the proper way to communicate when the time comes that I am going on vacation/ will be away from internet for an extended amount of time? I know you mentioned in a post earlier that you wanted members to inform you of extended leaves of absence. Also, what do you consider as the shortest duration of absence that a member needs to inform you of? One week, two, a month?

Thanks,

Katie

The proper way is to PM or email one of the moderators. You ideally might want to contact two moderators, just to make sure you get your message across.

If you have been a faithful member of PH (as in participating in our discussions, giving feedback, etc), you can probably leave for a week without letting us know. However, if we've only had radio silence from you in months, it could be that we'll delete you during your vacation. We simply aren't going to PM/email people and say: "Hey, you haven't been active. Is there something wrong?"

Two weeks' absence sounds right. If it's a month or more, you definitely NEED to let us know because we continually keep track of the PH members' activity. Right now, it's easy to check our Excel and see who's active or not.
