Rah. I do not feel like doing this at all. LiveJournal used to be awesome and I would update all the time because I was awesome too. Kyle pointed out that the last time I was down there, it only took me a day to update. This time it's taken me a week because I am a lazy son of a bitch. To be fair, I had finals and stuff. Still, I probably wouldn't be doing this if it weren't for the incessant bitching coming from both Kyle and Stank. Also, I don't think Gayle has seen a picture of my in braids yet and that's really just a shame. So here it is, fuckers.
So, if you didn't know, last weekend I took a trip down to Georgia. I couldn't really think of anything better for my mom to get me for my birthday, and as she is awesome, she agreed to cover most of the cost of the plane tickets. She really is the best mom ever. Anyway, the planning kinda sucked a bit but things were still awesome regardless.
My flight left Friday afternoon and I got to spend some quality time at the airport. According to Justin, Northwest has a new terminal and I'm fairly certain that was where I was at because I was flying with Northwest and the terminal I was in was a hell of a lot nicer than wherever I was at last time. I've come to the conclusion that I need to take a plane trip with a group of friends because we're bound to have oodles of fun that way. There's was literally so much to do at the airport that I became overwhelmed a sat quietly alone with my iPod. But, with a group I'm confident we'd have a few adventures. Justin suggested Chicago we take a plane for Chicago '06 and I think we might have to do that, partially because it would be way awesome and way faster, but also Amtrak will probably cease to exist by then anyway.
Flight was delayed a little bit because Kyle is a douche and there was quite a storm ragin' down south. We ended up sitting on the plane for a good half hour before we actually moved and that was slightly awful. I sat next to a man who resembled a skinnier version of Michael Moore. He only talked to me a few times but he was actually kinda funny. We had a screaming child two seats ahead of us which gave him an opportunity to make several amusing gestures in the general direction of the child and its parents. After the rain finally cleared up in Atlanta, they let us take off and things were mostly smooth. When we were landing, there was a lady in front of me who started to have a panic attack or something equally funny. Her breathing got really erratic, she took out some sort of inhaler, she was clutching her husband tightly and mumbling, and would occasionally start tugging upon her ears. I found it amusing but I am a terrible person and such a thing shouldn't amuse you.
I got to the airport and Hartsfield was pretty cool, just as it was the last time I was there. I was as far away from the baggage claim area where Kyle was meeting me as I possibly could be, but I was afraid to take the shuttle so I sucked it up and walked forever. It wasn't a very good idea. After lots and lots of walking, I found Kyle and we made our way to the car. The weather had cleared up which was nice, but even if it had been raining, it was still a lot better than Michigan.
We had plans to get dinner with Gregg so we headed to Georgia Tech to pick him up. We didn't listen to Radiohead on the way because that would have been pretty lame. It took us awhile to get there but we did and then there was Gregg. When I first told Gayle I was going to see Gregg, she said something along the lines of "I can't fathom what it will be like to meet the physical manifestation of all those words" (In reference to his frequent LiveJournal entries. He's much better at updating than I am.). I think that really sums it up. Or perhaps I forgot to take my camera out of my bag and didn't get a picture of him and would like you to think of Gregg has a giant blob of words. YOUR CHOICE. Either way, the three of us hit up a pizza place for dinner and it was good. Gregg had to get back to school so we got rid of him and then drove around for awhile because Kyle doesn't know his way around Atlanta.
After that we headed over to Kyle's house in search of a sleeping bag and some other shit. I met his dad who was nice and seems to be a lot cooler than my dad. The sleeping bag we were trying to get was covered in white goop and that was sad. But, it gave us an excuse to head out in search of a new one which we did later in the night. While we were there Kyle grabbed both Lunar games for PS1 so that I could experience their greatness. When we had done all that, we made our way to Ali and Erik's place. Neither of them knew we were coming as Kyle is a lot better at surprising people than Ali is (though Ali is a lot nicer and a lot better looking. Also, it wasn't really Ali's fault that Kyle figured out I was coming the first time. It was mine. And Whitney's. And Kyle is just a dick.).
Ali was at work when we got there so we had to settle for hanging out with Erik. He was genuinely surprised to see me which was fun. There were between 500-600 cats there and we amused ourselves by watching them. Eventually Ali got home from work and I think her reaction can best be described as WTF. It was really nice to see her again because she is awesome and sends me pies and Christmas cards and all sorts of things.
While we were there it randomly started to hail and it was one of the strangest things ever. It basically came out of nowhere while we were experiencing relatively nice weather. It was actually pretty intense and I imagine the hail would have hurt quite a bit had we actually been outside. I wish it had killed Kyle.
My hair was sufficiently longer this time than it had been the last time I was there and Ali decided she was going to braid it. I can't say no to such a thing, so here are the pictures we managed to get of my hair in all its braided glory. I am very pretty and if anyone is actually interested, I have higher quality versions of all these pictures.
Aren't I adorable? And speaking of adorable, here's Erik.
Ali and I are pretty okay looking as well. Erik looks like he just woke up because he did. He's the best.
After that, we took off. There were tentative plans to see Kung Fu Hustle with Alison but those fell through because they went to see it a stupid theater that was out of the way or something. That's kind of a shame because I probably could have snapped a picture of Alison and then everyone reading this would be much happier. Anyway, that was the last I saw of Erik and Ali which was definitely the saddest part of the trip. I love them both, even if I hate Erik a lot.
After that we had another long drive ahead of us as we headed back to Athens. We hit up a Wal*Mart for a sleeping bag and an ample supply of Mountain Dew, and then it was on to the dorm. Dorms are dorms. We missed out on a slight party and when we got there we witnessed some drunken hijinx. OR DID WE? I went into the bathroom and I saw this dude in the shower and he was totally nailing two chicks. It was weird. Kyle may or may not have started to work on his paper and I may or may not have sat in front of the television for a couple hours of Lunar. I think we went to bed around 4 and that was it for the first night.
The next morning we were woken up kinda early by people on their way out to shoot each other with fake guns and balls of paint. We slept some more after that and then it was on to things. Oh. Yeah. I didn't mention Kyle's free iPod yet. Kyle got a free iPod because he is stupid and sold his soul to Blockbuster online. Still, he was excited and spent a lot of time playing it which I can't fault him for. I remember the days when Celia was new and I would spend hours just clutching her in my arms, never wanting to let her go. ::sigh:: Those were the days, kids.
After showers and iPod love, we made our downtown. We had food and a place that served food and it was good, as food tends to be. Luckily enough, we were there during the two day event that is the Athens Human Rights Festival! We got there and were greeted to the wondrous sound of five girls playing guitar and singing slightly off key. As you may or may not know, I am a sucker for any girl in front of a microphone, and I was instantly in love. We didn't really watch them play or anything, but later I was bored and I looked them up on the Festival's website. Here's what it had to say:
Girls With Guitars
Meg Winthrop is fifteen and attends Athens Academy. She has played guitar for one and a half years. Chelsea Born is seventeen and attends Clarke Central High School. She has played guitar for five years. Bridgette Duffield is fourteen years old and attends Oconee Middle School. She has played guitar for one year. Christina Howells is seventeen and attends Oconee County High School. She has played guitar for five years. Gabriela Mejias, is 11 years old and attends St. Joseph's Catholic School. She has played for 6 years.
Yes, they were actually lame enough to call themselves Girls with Guitars. Is that not cute? And ages from 11-17. It kinda makes me feel creepy that they were all underage, as throughout the weekend both Kyle and I referred to them as the hot girls in the band. But then I just remember that I'm a pedophile and everything is okay again.
After we finished eating, we walked around town and hit up some shops. I found CDs that I wanted but didn't buy anything because I am a cheap fuck. Also, around this time, Girls with Guitars had made their exit from the stage, and A Bitter Fight Against Nothing had come to wow us all with their magical brand of music. Kyle said that the name suited them perfectly and I couldn't agree more. Imagine a band much like The Blood Brothers, but with every single aspect that makes The Blood Brothers tolerable, removed. They were that fucking amazing. Again, browsing the website of the Human Rights Fest tells me that they were the winners of a Battle of the Bands in the teen category and that's the reason they were performing here. Still, I have faith that one day soon A Bitter Fight Against Nothing will be joining the ranks of Azure Ray and Now Its Overhead in the ranks of Athens based superstars. God willing, my friends. God willing.
Then I walked into the bathroom and there was this dude in the shower and you could just tell he was nailing two chicks. I am not making this up.
After that, it was back to the dorms for some more doing of things. Kyle had his paper to write and I had more Lunar to play. His Playstation inexplicably died which was really shitty but not surprising, considering how long he's had it. After that, I had to find solace with Celia, but I managed. After several hours of paper writing, Kyle was nice enough to take me to dinner at Chck-Fil-A, greatest place in the history of the world. We ate our food and then made our way to a movie theater to see Kung Fu Hustle. Quite a funny movie which Stank should probably see even though I know he doesn't have the patience to sit through more than twenty minutes of subtitles. I met some people who I've already forgotten and impressed the ladies with my T-Shirts that reference Harry Potter. I am a total fucking player.
It was back to school again after that and as soon as we got there I totally ran into this guy in the shower and he was nailing two chicks. It was awesome. Kyle worked on more paper and I amused myself with HBO. I caught the episode of Maher I'd missed the day before and it was amazing, as usual. I also caught some bits and pieces of In America which was awesome because it had two little Irish girls in Catholic School Girl garb.
I think it's safe to say that I need to see this movie.
And that was about all the excitement we had for the night and it was time for more sleep. The next morning Kyle let me steal some music from his computer which was kind. Then we got breakfast and looked at the shops one more time. He got a CD an some comics and I bought a comic because I am huge fucking nerd and needed something to read on the plane trip home. After that, it was time for pictures.
This was from the restaurant we ate it. It was by far the coolest painting they had. Everything else was like a stupid car or some shit.
Here are some old people playing at the Human Rights Festival. Not quite a picture of Girls with Guitars or even A bitter fight against nothing, but it was the best I could do.
This is Kyle with a dog. There were lots of dogs around. Kyle is very attractive.
This is me with a dog. Even though he is very beautiful, I am still way better looking than Kyle will ever be. Look at my hair.
This is an arch. There's a stupid superstition that says if you walk under this arch, you will never graduate from UGA. I aim to prove them wrong.
This is me ringing a bell. Apparently you're supposed to ring the bell if you win a football game or something, but I figured leaving the state was enough of an occasion to warrant a ringing. Or Kyle forced me to do it.
Here's a fountain, which is probably the most picturesque spot on campus.
There it is, even closer!
And there's Kyle peeing in it. LOL.
And this is some attractive girl we got to pose in front of it for us. Oh fuck, that's me.
This is a random shot of campus. Kyle told me to take this picture because "chicks dig green" and apparently that is true. So, if you are a girl and you are digging this shot of green, we should have sex.
And thusly concludes the picture portion of the entry. After we finished up taking those, we headed back to the car and settled in for the longass drive to the airport. We did listen to Radiohead on the way there and that was pretty bad. I survived though. We made it there without event and that was that. Kyle saw me off and it was cute. I survived my first gate change and that's only exciting if you're me. There's not much to say about the trip back other than it was on time and fun. Stank, Melissa, and Turner picked me up from the airport because they are good people.
And that's about it. I had a great time, even though I hate Kyle a lot. Georgia should probably be closer to Michigan, though. Odds are I'll be back eventually. What's the point of having a credit card if you can't waste money on plane tickets to hang out with people from the internet? That's basically all I can remember and if I forgot anything I'm sure Kyle can remind me of it in the comment section. And that's all I have to say. Back to not updating for months at a time.
