It is hard to see how one particular blogging should be mandated (if this is what has happened) over others. Although I have not had extensive experience in using blogging in my teaching there are such a variety of tools in the market place that the features and benefits of one over the other should be evaluated by both the teacher and in many cases students. Comparing and contrasting differences between tools may also be a valuable area of study. Ultimately tools change rapidly enough to make it difficult or foolish to mandate one in preference to others. Also learning to differentiate between features and limitation of different software tools is only something that can be done through the process of exposure to a range of applications.
