XPS

I'm getting a $3,200 Dell XPS system in a couple of weeks. I'm so pysched over it, Liz can have her laptop back all the time so we don't have to share it anymore. I can set up the desk for my workspace and start using the system for renders because of the dual core processor. I was thinking of going quad core but it's expensive (like $1,000 more) ( Read more... )

New computer? Please tell me you requested Windows XP instead of Vista. From what I hear Vista is crap, full of bugs that they haven't worked out yet, and is hardly compatible with ANYTHING. No one I know of is pleased with the system at all. I heard something about the amount of resources and shit it takes to run as well. *shrug* I'm no computer tech, but I'm sticking with XP for the time being:)

I've been using computers and hardware for over 15 years... I don't see anything wrong with Vista so far. Most of the issues stem from manufacturers that need to update their drivers for Vista functionality. Anything that radically changes the way the home operating system works will have something similar happen, too. Just imagine the hell people are going to go through when it comes time for gasoline to be phased into hydrogen.

Vista does take a lot of resources to run, but then again it's built for new systems. If you're running a $300 bargain bin computer that struggles to run XP with Notepad open, a highly graphic OS is going to kill your computer. :)

It's a good idea to stay with XP, though, I generally don't get a new OS until after the first service pack... That, and I just like XP and I've been using it since it came out. I'll change over one of these days, but for now the computer's going to ship with XP media center installed with the remote control for easy DVD viewing ^^
