Angel Island, Rest In Peace

Tom and I hiked up Mount Livermore at the top of Angel Island yesterday to watch the Blue Angels put on their annual airshow for Fleet Week.

We almost missed the last ferry home, which would have been unfortunate for many reasons, not the least of which is that the island burned down over night. I smelled the smoke from my apartment when I got

I was very sad to read about it - so far over 400 of the 740 acres are burned. I'm glad we got to visit and hike to the top last year when it was still all pretty.

After even a short amount of time, sometimes fire damage, even major fire damage, can yield some breathtakingly beautiful regrowth. I don't know if you ever saw Yellowstone after the major fires way back when, but it's amazing what nature can renew.
