1.  There is a job being advertised which I would not be that likely to get (although I can see how I could sell myself for it), but am wondering whether I should apply anyway.  Unfortunately the main pluses are practical - more $ and probably good for career (length and quality) and also a more convenient commute.  Minuses are that it will be more ( Read more... )

1. Draw up a pros and cons list.

2. Why muddle? It's winter and you need a coat. If the one available is best for you, get it.

3. Clean desk to meditate on the email, then write it.

I think you should apply, and worry about whether you actually want it when they offer it to you. I don't think it would adversely affect future applications there (well, unless you are offered it and turn it down, I suppose). It might even be a positive, giving them a chance to get to know you and see that you are "keen" to work there.
