Malta!!!
I return from Malta a lot browner than I was when I left, but unfortunately my wonderful pink hairdye hasn't stood up well to snorkelling and swimming. Gozo was HOT. Very hot. 38 degrees hot. Our hotel was lovely, though quite basic. It was more like a bed and breakfast, but there was air conditioning and a balcony with the most amazing view of a perfectly azure blue sea and white cliffs, and a pool outside, so I am not going to complain.
We were staying in a place called Xlendi, a little town by a bay sheltered all around with steep white cliffs. The waterfront is lined with restaurants and bars, quite touristy but not crowded or tacky. But even though there were so many people around, you only had to walk about five metres out into the water and dive under to see hundreds of fish, big silvery ones and colourful ones and little speckled ones, all swimming around, totally visible in the clear water. Niall and I spent two days snorkelling in the bay, although we were chased away by jellyfish that suddenly appeared to terrorise us. I discovered a love of jumping off cliffs into the sea.
We went to Victoria one day, thats the capital city- well, town- of Gozo. Its such an amazing place. Not having a clue where we were or where we were going we started wandering around, through streets of the most adorably tiny quirky houses, all with really fancy, intricate bay windows and sculptures and doors, mostly named after the Virgin Mary and various saints. But then we stumbled across the citadel, a medieval fortress on a hill above the city that bizzarely enough, we had failed to notice. Another day we went on a boattrip to the Blue Lagoon in Comino. It was gorgeous but it was a Sunday so all the native Gozitans and Maltese were out in their boats. We found out why there were no boy racers to be seen on the roads of Malta- instead of cars, they had speedboats. The cooler and harder and manlier you are, the pointier your boat is, and the more flames and stripes and fins it has. This was kind of funny but the crowds left quite a lot of crap floating in the water which was a pity as the water really was the most beautiful clear amazing blue... But there were jellyfish so we ended up avoiding the water.
I miss Niall... it was great to spoend such a long tiume with him. Much chess was played. And we didn't break up or kill each iother or grow to hate each other, even though we have out idealogical differences- I'm a horribly cynical bitch, who doesn't view humanity too kindly whereas he's a sweet idealistic guy whpo wants to save the world. But we're good for each other, I think. Wonder what he's doing now...
Anyways, hope everyone here is happy and having a great holiday.
