Day Fourteen: "Paranormal Activity Two"

Oct 14, 2012 23:37

Paranormal Activity 2 is...well, it's a Paranormal Activity movie. If they work for you, this one will.

This is actually a prequel (partially) of the first PA film. It's about Katie's sister and her family.

The Reys set up a security system complete with cameras after experiencing what they think is a break-in. In fact, it's the demon Tobey (yes, seriously) come for the family's first born son, Hunter. Basically, the normal PA stuff happens and then the dad sends the demon to attack Katie. Then PA 1 happens, Katie comes back and kills everybody except for Hunter and her step-niece Ally (who is at a sleepover), takes Hunter, and vanishes.

Like I said, it's a Paranormal Activity movie. scap3goat and I have had some conversations about how I know these films are stupid, but for some reason, they work really well on me. (Especially the first one. I sleep walk and have been found behaving a little like Katie did in that film.)

PA2 isn't as good as the first. However, the production knew what it was doing by bringing in baby Hunter and a dog. To paraphrase Stephen King, you can kill all the people you want, but the first time you hurt a dog, people get angry. The addition of the dog and Hunter automatically makes the movie scarier, especially since Hunter isn't old enough to be annoying and since the puppy gets hurt. He lives through everything, but it's still horrifying.

The movie also has a very subtle prequel hook for Paranormal Activity 3, which I also watched. (On Day 28.) It's subtle, though. Possessed!Katie steals some video tapes from their childhood out of the basement. These tapes are what makes up PA3, which means Tobey is the one who wants you to watch PA3.
