After the Series Three finale of Being Human UK, I refused to watch series four because
Mitchell was dead and I knew Nina and George weren't going to be main characters any more. And that made me sad because I had gotten used to those characters and fell in love with them.
After I finally caught up with Merlin (Series five premieres soon!), Netflix kept trying to get me to watch series four of Being Human, especially since I rated the first three series at four stars. Since I suck at (most) peer pressure, I gave in. And I'm really happy I did.
The guy who plays Hal is super hot. (And the Partner agrees with me, which is also kinda hot.) And I really like the character. On the outside, he's very much Mitchell 2.0, but then you start looking at the character. They're quite different underneath it all. And Hal is all sorts of
adorkable. I'm a big fan of the way he dresses and his OCD is endearing as well as being hilarious.
It took me a bit longer to grow used to Tom. (Due to the whole killing thing.) But after I realized he was basically just a kid, I started really empathizing with the character. Especially since I'm also a kid pretending to be a grown up most of the time. And I really love
the fact that he was willing to sacrifice himself for Eve's happiness. That really resonated with me and truly made me love the character.
Overall, the season was pretty good. Especially Big Bad
Mark Gatiss. I <3 him. And it doesn't hurt that I definitely felt he was hitting on Hal in all of their scenes together. There was a couple of times I wanted to yell, "Just kiss him already!" at the screen. However, both of the big twists were really easy to figure out. I mean, what anybody surprised that the angel ghost was
Eve or that the prophecy said
Eve had to die for the vampires to be wiped out? I felt that both of those were really obvious to figure out. I kinda wish the show had gone ahead and told us the truth and then had all this dramatic irony between what we know and what the characters know. I think it would've been far more effective. That's really my main complaint, though. Otherwise, I enjoyed it.
And then because I had watched all of Being Human UK, Netflix started recommending Being Human US to me. And since I had just learned the lesson to trust Netflix, I decided to watch it. (But I'm still not going to watch Jersey Shore! The fact that I can already name two characters is far too much knowledge!)
I've only seen the first two episodes but...
They're almost exactly the same as the UK. The only difference is the name of the city and the accents. (The captions even use the English spellings.) I'm going to keep watching because that's the same thing that happened in The US Office, but then it went its own way and got better than The UK Office. (Sorry, Martin Freeman and Mackenzie Crook! I still love you more.) But really, I don't see the point in remaking it yet. I prefer Mitchell and Annie to Aidan (which *is* a cute nod to the actor who plays Mitchell) and Sally. And I still think Russell Tovey is the best actor out of both shows, but I do prefer Josh to George. I've always thought George was way too loud. Which is a personal preference and like I said Russell Tovey is all sorts of absolutely fantastic. I've not seen enough of Being Human US to decide if I prefer Bishop to Herrick, but Bishop is played by Mark Pellegrino, so I think he's probably going to be really creepy and awesome.
P.S. Now that I have a keyboard, (Yay laptop! Boo Windows 8! I still need to think of a name for her.) I am slowly updating the
31 Days 31 Films masterlist. I'm trying to backdate all of the reviews to the date I watched the movie, but sometimes I fail at LJ, so if you see an odd post entited, "Day ##" that's what is happening.
