Day Seventeen: "Last House on the Left" (1972)

Last House on the Left is so disturbing I had to turn it off a couple of times and my friend J just left because he couldn't handle it. And I don't mean he left the room; I mean he left my place and went to walk around the mall for a bit.

Mari and her friend Phyllis decide to spend Mari's 17th birthday in New York at a rock concert. Whilst in the city, they try to score pot from a guy, not realizing that his father is a violent escaped convict. Junior takes the girls back to where his dad and partners are hiding out. The three guys rape Phyllis and then all four of them murder both girls. In her dying throes, Phyllis escapes to the lake that leads to Mari's house. The gang drives off but have car troubles near Mari's house. Her parents take them in; then find Phyllis's body. They get revenge on the four for killing the girls.

It's all very gruesome and disturbing, and after the film, J and I went to the bar and proceeded to be the quietest/most paranoid/jumpiest people there. The bartender actually asked me if I was okay because I wasn't my normal perky self.

It's a Wes Craven film so it's well made, but...

I don't recommend it.
