Cat People is amazing. It's a classic for a reason.
Oliver Reed marries Serbian immigrant Irena Dubrovna. Irena is worried about them getting married because her culture has the legend of the cat people: women who turn into cats and kill their husbands after getting pregnant. Her mother raised her alone after Irena's father died before she was born. Irena thinks her mother was a cat person, and she may be one too. Oliver thinks she's insane and sends her to a psychiatrist. Meanwhile, he's still very close to his co-worker, Alice Moore, and tells her everything. Including that Irena is seeing a shrink. This makes Irena incredibly jealous. She begins to stalk Alice because she believes Oliver may be in love with her, not Irena.
This is an incredibly tense film. It's barely an hour long, but it uses what time it has to its advantage. It sucks you in immediately and keeps you along for the ride. I really felt bad for Irena; though, I couldn't help wondering why she got married if she thought she was a cat person. :/
I highly, highly recommend this film. Out of five stars, I give it ten.
