How rats look like when they are happy is on my list of things I do not know about rats. But I know, or think I know, they are social animals, so do you think he comes to hang out when you call, or is it since you have treats?
They are very social. He hangs out even when I don't call. During playtime he normally gets the run of two rooms (they have a connecting door). If I leave the room and he thinks he should be coming with me he will come tearing after me. If I'm doing something like reading or watching TV he will hang out near (or sometimes on) me, sitting on the chair next to mine, or on my chair. If he wants my attention (for playtime, for food, or for company) he will find me and often try to climb my leg.
He also likes treats, but I call him to come far more often than I call him to come because I have treats. He's not as obedient as a dog, he does come a large percentage of the time when I call. Assuming he's awake, that is. :)

(At least when he's inside the house. He's more cautious if we're outside, which is sensible.)
