This article from the LA Times helped me understand things a bit more, along the lines of what you're saying:
China's view of Tibet

"Given this, the West should try to narrow, not widen, the gulf between the Dalai Lama and the Chinese government. But that is the work of quiet diplomacy, not grandstanding."

YES!!! I really hope that this message catches on ASAP.
I feel so frustrated sometimes, when the topic of tibet comes up around me. fortunately (or maybe unfortunatly) it hasn't very much at all. I just feel like I am on the precipice of being written of as some nut-job pro-chinese sino-american as soon as I voice any opinion of "quieting down"
I feel like this is not only very judgemental and wrong, but considering all the suffering my family, including the parts that made it to the US and the parts that didn't at the hands of the PRC, it's down right insulting.
I get judged, slapped in the face, and enjoy the indignity of having my past erased in one feld swoop.
though, with china being at the center of so much other controversy anyways, I fear this is only the beginning.

thanks for your insights, this makes so much more sense than running around staging protests. Since when is that an effective form of international policy? I don't understand people who like protesting everything even when its clearly an ineffective tactic with NO effect at best.. maybe thats cuz I just don't like crowds..

the road to hell is paved with good intentions. and racism.
