“This must be the damned unluckiest city in the world to be taken through by ambulance”, I remember thinking as Tram and a nurse clutched me tightly as the ambulance darted and swerved, jockeying with motorbikes for an extra few feet of space. Hi Fred, I was so happy to find your blog entry this afternoon. All of my 9th floor friends, who worried along with me were also delighted that you gained enough strength to write this letter.

What a nightmare it must have been for you before you got to the hospital and had the life-saving surgery. Good that your Dad was able to go quickly but your Mom and Sister and I put in some anxious time waiting to hear from him. How good to know that the worst is over.

I wish you could come back to Portland to recover, but I understand your need to finish your stint in Viet Nam. So, Fred take care of yourself and send me an email now and then letting me know how you are doing.
