As always, I watched the news this morning before I went to school. You know the bomb that supposedly shuts off all electricity/communication? They don't want to use it unless they have to. NO, THEY PREFER TO USE THEIR M.O.A.B. (or whatever) THAT HAS MORE FORCE THAN A SMALL ATOMIC ONE ( Read more... )

It isn't all about the oil.

Read up.

[Not to rag on you specifically or try and make you hate me or anything, but I'm really sick of people saying it's all about the oil. Now there are oil factors, but it isn't "all about the oil." If it were, there would be no diplomacy, there would be no warning, and there would be no concern at all for anything other than the oil fields that are in all actuality cause most of our troops' lives. I just don't like the war being blamed on such a trivial reason as that.]

They have to make it sound pretty for Americans to agree without hating the government. There was no support for WWI until they covered up their reasons (trade) with false ones (spread democracy), resulting in too much destruction. This post-war devastation is the reason the U.N. was created. This is a similar situation, and now we're defying all of the reasons we started the U.N. Few people, not even the hicks by me, want to go kill innocent people for oil. But every day on the news, politicians talk about how high gas prices are, and how nice it will be once they're lowered. George W. Bush doesn't seem to want oil so much as revenge with a pretty face on it, but there are supporters, particularly in the not-so-environmentally-conscious leaders.

You totally missed my point.

My point is : this war has many facets to it. One of which is oil. But by no means is that the underlying reason. If it were, would we be so careful? No. Would we publicly say any revenue from Iraqi oil in a post-liberated state would be the Iraqis and only the Iraqis? NO. And if this were about revenge, would we have waited this long? Would we have even made a half-assed attempt at diplomacy? NO.

The real reason for this war lies in the thousands of tons of biological and chemical agents, the 8,000 liters of anthrax, the warheads, and the psycho-dictator that killed 5,000 of the Iraqi people on a whim 15 years ago today.

There's your reason.

I never said the only reason for war was oil, but no one can ever convince me that it isn't mainly about revenge. Bush has said so many times that we need to take action because of the lives lost in September. No one cares about Iraq UNTIL we're attacked. As my History teacher says, "Countries will not act, only react to what they feel is in their best interest." You can make up reasons about love and peace, but war does not bring on peace, it just brings on more war and more attacks ( ... )

I'm a fan of "turn the other cheek," but then I'm a hopeless pacifist. xP

EXCELLENT MUSIC CHOICE. --/- [that is my symbol for thumbs up. it's an especially realistic rendering, don't you think?]

I don't believe in physical violence, even to counter physical harm done to me. However, I will take measures to protect myself and if verbally abused, I'll probably abuse verbally in return. But I don't believe in getting people involved who have nothing to do with it.

"War is peace.
Freedom is slavery.
Ignorance is strength."

Hmm...I'm sorry...I may be totally wrong...but, isn't that quote from the book 1984?

because I know that I have seen it somewhere.
