Back when I was about 17 or 18 or some such number I hung out with my cousin Ben a lot. My cousin's a hell of a guy, I love him to death. He's always had a way of making me look at things in a different light. Not just changing my opinion, mind you, but a way of pointing things out that I'd never noticed before. I remember thinking about this after having to listen to a bunch of people describe what they thought a poem meant in an english class way back in high school.

It's actually the reason i refused to take any english courses in university (a very hard won right). I couldn't stand the thought of listening to so many different people guess at what somebody else was thinking and what they meant when they said something vague in a piece of writing. The thought of listening to one more arrogant moron made me want to pull out my hair.

If you're going to tell me something deep and profound, let's not beat around the bush and hide whatever it is that you want to say.

It's nice to read some of your words, by the way. It's been a while.

The best lyrics are written like people really talk. Right now my favorite song is by Junior Brown. My Wife Thinks You're Dead.

"
Somebody spread the rumor that you had lost your life
That's the way I heard it and what I told my wife
Now, here you're showin' up again and talk is gettin' 'round
And I can see that one of us will have to leave this town
If you think that I want trouble, then you're crazy in your head
'Cause you're wanted by the Police and my wife thinks you're dead.
