The precious "M"

Oct 06, 2005 01:34

So I went down to the ol' DOT today, took a quick test, yadda yadda, got an "M" on my license next to the "C". So it says "CM". This is mildly amusing because those are my initials, but much more amusing is that I have the "M" at all. Anybody who knew me a few years ago would likely think that I would never do such a thing. Also, Alex and her ( Read more... )

"sami villwock") and and i see a few ames high school things i didn't know were online and then i see a link to the yeti on a budget website from that superchiefs vs yeti on a budget show because wally totally mentioned me (badass, right?!) yeah...
so my phone has rang at least four times this morning and it's only 9 o'clock. why don't people take a sleeping pill and learn to call at a more appropriate hour?!

FUCKING AWESOME. How hard was the MSF? I signed up, but I won't get a slot until at least April. Fucking Wisconsin and Harley-Davidson.

What kind of motorcycle are you going to get? Do you have any gear yet?

MSF wasn't too rough, really. The hardest stuff is where you have to go really slow and do U-turns, in my opinion. Tons of people had trouble with that, including myself. Anything where you get goin' over 20mph is easy. I got into an MSF course about 10 days after I made the call.

As for a motorcycle... I have a 1984 Honda Nighthawk. It looks like it's from an 80s movie about THE FUTURE. http://www.hondanighthawks.net/700s_Mike.jpg <-- looks like that, except mine is more beat up. It's not running very well right now, as I am in the process of cleaning the carburetors (using a chemical fuel system cleaner, hoping I won't have to take it apart). I got a helmet and some gloves, but that's all for gear. Very basic black stuff.

Maybe I should just take the damned test in Iowa somehow.

Anyway, what a coincidence! I was also looking at the older Nighthawks. The insurance is super-low on them. This is probably a strange sounding question, but how well do you fit on it? I suppose that I'm somewhat tall, and I've been worrying about looking like one of those tiny motorcycle circus acts (not to mention being uncomfortable while riding).

Speaking of the 1980s version of the future, check out the Madison court-house:

Someone already started taking stuff off. It has no mirrors! However, this makes me feel a bit unsafe, and I am considering getting some installed. As far as me fitting on the bike... I'm about 5'9", and I wish I were a few inches taller for it. I cannot place my feet flat on the ground. For insurance, I'll be paying about $140/yr. The entire ordeal (msf, lic/reg, ins, and motorcycle) has cost me less than $1500, and I've made a friend just by having the motorcycle die right behind my neighbor's house -- he is apparently a motorcycle guru. He helped me figure out that my carburetors were the problem, and as of last night, it is running just fine.

I do not believe that is a courthouse. It looks like a stripclub.
