If you could change one thing about the world, what would it be?
I would encourage people to take to heart the adage "do unto others and you would have them due to you". I doubt that world peace will ever be a reality, but I think that if people are a bit more considerate to others and aware of how their actions and words affect others that the world would be a much more bearable place to live. Granted, there will always (unfortunately) be issues of ego, prejudice and ignorance throughout humanity (ignorance as far as not knowing or understanding people) and those will cause problems... but if people really were able to change and be more considerate of others I think we'd all be a bit better off.
What makes a person respectable?
I view integrity as an essential quality for some to be respectable. (web definition:Integrity comprises the personal inner sense of "wholeness" deriving from honesty and consistent uprightness of character. The etymology of the word relates it to the Latin adjective integer (whole, complete).) I think I basically view integrity as living a life that is along the lines of the above stated definition... honest and upright. This includes not being two faced, hypocritical or "bad". To be able to live out a life that truly reflects the character of the heart.
What do you look for in a friend?
I really value trustworthiness in friends. If you can't trust someone then it is difficult if not impossible to be yourself and know that the other will truly be the person they are. So much is based on trust. If there is trust among friends then the ability to laugh together, share thoughts and feelings, love, tears, etc. is so much easier. I also think that respect is essential for friendships to work. You might have your own ideas, feelings and opinions but if you respect each other then a lot of arguing, spite, bitterness and hurt feelings can be prevented.
What are your hobbies?
I love to read whenever I get the chance. I mostly read fiction but I do enjoy some non-fiction (generally historically related materials), biographies and the like. I spend way too much time on the web which I view to be not only a great method of procrastination (ok, I admit it! I'm flawed!!) but also a great method of learning. Yes, I love to learn and I guess it could be considered a hobby. Though I'm still working to get through university I know that I am most assuredly a lifelong learner. (See answer for what I want to do for a living). I also love to write though admittedly I have not done much of it lately. I've mostly had experience writing poetry though I have done a bitty bit of fiction. Aside from that "serious" stuff I love to sing, dance and sleep. I also love spending time with my infant nephew.
Have or would you give time and money to a charity?
Yes. There are several organizations that I help support in various ways. I think it's important for people to help others in whatever way possible. I guess it goes back to the "do unto others..." idea.
What is the one thing you would most like to accomplish?
My immediate goal is to strive to complete my university work with as much motivation/persistence/good effort as possible. It's so easy to get burned out at times with the work involved, but I want to be able to look back at these years with pride. I also want to be able to carry that sort of ethic with my through grad school, career and entire life. I also (and more importantly) want to live a life of integrity and be the best person I can be (character-wise) in the time that I'm blessed with here on earth.
Who is your role model?
My mom, no doubt. She's such a strong woman emotionally and spiritually. She's been through a lot in her life and not allowed difficult and painful situations to harden her heart. She is very caring and compassionate yet firm in her beliefs and love for her family. She is also smart in so many ways... not only about "book" knowledge but in life knowledge.
What trait most annoys you about other people?
I find it annoying when people are overly self absorbed. I think there are times when it is important to look after oneself and one's goals, yet when other people's feelings, goals, dreams, etc are forgotten or dismissed then self absorption is not so good.
What do you want to do for a living?
I want to be a librarian. I think it relates to my love and desire for learning. With Library Science (yeah, it's a science and requires an MA. who woulda thought?) there are always opportunities for learning. There's no way around learning when you're researching and assisting others find information. It is always a great career because I don't need to be in a cubical 9-5. I can be helping others, laughing with others, showing kids the joy of books (hopefully) and so many more wonderful and gratifying things.I like the fact that not only do I get to learn but I get to teach others so many different things. Knowledge will only do me a certain amount of good if I keep it to myself. Plus, how fun would it be to be surrounded by so many books? It'll be grand.
If your friend was attacked (by a person, animal, or (in the magic world) beast), what would you do?I would do anything and everything in my power to help them from screaming at the top of my lungs, saying a prayer or giving my life. Granted, some things would be more difficult than others as far as helping, but I doubt that there is anything I could do that I would end up regretting if it came to helping a loved one.
Would you ever use an Unforgivable Curse for any reason?
I have a hard time figuring out my answer to this question, but under the worse case scenario- whatever that might end up being- it might really be necessary and therefore I would use it.
What do you think are your top five abilities or qualities?
*trustworthy- I really value the trust that others bestow on me and I do my best to be someone that is worth of that trust.
*respectful- I'd like to think that I generally respect people until or unless they do something to lose that respect. I try to be as intelligent (informed) and open-minded about people as I can be. Whether I am always successful, I doubt it, but it is something that I aim for.
*honesty/integrity- Though sometimes I might have a difficult time with it I do try to be as honest and real as possible. My life is quite an open book and hopefully what people see in me reflects the person I really am in my heart and mind.
*sense of humor- I definitely think life is meant to be filled with laughter and fun. It's good to be able to laugh at yourself and with others... as long as you don't point and laugh... that's not nice.
*compassion- I generally tend to feel a bit of whatever hardships people might be going through and I am ready and willing to lend a listening ear, a shoulder to cry on, a smile and an encouraging word for someone who needs it, even if they aren't what I would considered a close friend.
What do you think are your top five weaknesses or worst qualities?
*procrastination- I can just get so lazy about doing things sometimes. I start out by giving myself some time off from work, school, running around frantically but then it takes me much to long to get back to things like housework, exercise.
*staying up/sleeping in too late- I really am kind of warped and I miss out on so much daylight. Granted it's nice to be able to sleep till 10:30 everyday, but maybe I'm missing out on some important stuff.
*letting pet peeves get to me so much- and I mean really get to me. I've been known to walk out of the room if someone is eating too loudly... I know, it's silly. I'm working on it.
*self doubt/insecurity- I wouldn't consider this trait constant, nor would I say it is all consuming but it is periodically an issue (like when I get anything other than an A on a paper:-p) and sometimes when dealing with new people or situations.
*short temper, especially when woken up- I've been known to mouth off to family members who awaken me for some reason or other and I generally don't remember having done so once I am fully awake! No good at all.
Define in your own words the following key traits:
Courage:To be brave and face fears and difficulties with all the strength and will that you have.
Loyalty:To stand by your friends, family and beliefs with tenacity despite what it might cost you to do so, and regardless of whether you wholeheartedly believe what the person might be doing (in which case it is alright to support as long as the actions aren't harmful to that person or anyone else.)
Intelligence: The first thing I think of is book knowledge, but I know that there is so much more to intelligence than what can be learned from books. I think someone truly intelligent learns from life situations and other people as well as books and strives to use their knowledge not only for their own benefit but for others as well.
Ambition:A drive to get all you can, do everything you can and everything you need to in order to get it what you want.
