If you could change one thing about the world, what would it be?
I would change people'a attitude towards difference of others. Alot of people now a days are selfish and just plain cruel when they encounter someone who they believe is different. It's either out of jealousy or insecurity that causes their hatred. I believe that which should put out differences aside and show respect to one another. If this were to happen, then none of the terrorism and evil would have been placed upon us.
What makes a person respectable?
I believe that a person who is open-minded and shows respect himself is respectable. Whether or not that person agrees with the topic or has the same opinion on it, there is no harm to listen about what others have to say. When that person is fair, only then shall he be a respectable person.
What do you look for in a friend?
I look for someone who is honest, smart, witty and courageous. I also look if they have a sense of humor. Basically, I don't necessarily need a friend who acts, talks and thinks like me. If you had to much in common, what would there be to talk about? I believe that just the right amount of similarities is just right to start a bond. On the other hand, I can make friends with anyone. I'm usually good in starting conversations and I can converse with anyone about anything under the sun. I think I have a wide range of topics in my head to continue a conversation. I also look for someone who I can talk to. Maybe not necessarily for me, but for themselves. I try to be the best friend I can be and give advice whenever it's needed.
What are your hobbies?
I am a sports addict. I enjoy playing sports whenever I have time. I used to be on the basketball varsity and now i'm on the soccer/football (however you call it) team. I run (basically track) every other weekend with my friends who invite me to do so. The past two years I also took badminton and have participated in a few tournaments. Since it is my summer vacation here now, i'm taking archery and i'm currently enjoying it alot. I have progressed over the past few weeks.
Another hobby that I also enjoy is reading. I read a wide range of books, from fiction, science, myths, mystery and those thought-provoking books. A sort of "toy store" for me is a huge book store where I can just sit and read the whole afternoon.
Next is most probably drama or theater arts. Currently, I have starred in two musical plays and now i'm taking up music lessons. I play the guitar and piano and I can also sing. I don't really think this is what I want as a profession when I get a job, but it's a great on developing your future by giving you the courage you need to take on people. Basically, public speaking skills.
I would love to expand more but I think this is pretty long already. All I can add to this is that I believe it is better to be "a jack of all trades and an ace in none."
Have or would you give time and money to a charity?
Yes. In fact, every Christmas my whole family has this sort of project where we would make bags composed of rice, some canned goods, clothes basically, necessities. Then we would distribute them to the less fortunate in our area. I think that is the best Christmas gift we can receive, the feeling that you did something right and that you've helped others. Once or twice a year, our school also has this program where we would teach children aged 5-9 who do not have an opportunity to go to school. I would participate everytime and teach subjects like Math and English.
What is the one thing you would most like to accomplish?
To be honest, there are so many things I would like accomplish. My list keeps on getting longer and longer everytime. But if I were to choose one thing, that would most probably be living my life to the fullest. Yes, it may sound cliche but it is true. I believe we shouldn't waste one second of our life because each second that passes by is an opportunity to do something with our lives. We should know that this second, on this minute, on this day, on this year even would never pass us again. We can have a great life by proving to be productive and have a positive mind.
Who is your role model?
I must admit, my parents. My parents are the ones who brought me up and thought me the "why's" in life. They showed me the path I should follow and that is to live a happy and simple life. They always told me to believe in myself and in my abilities. They are responsible for widening my abilities and skills and that is why I am who I am now. I have them to thank for such a wonderful life.
What trait most annoys you about other people?
I don't want to use the word hate, maybe strongly dislike. Yes, I strongly dislike people who can't think for themselves, doesn't know the meaning of respect (don't take this literally) and who don't know how to listen.
People who always depend on others to do it for them is not a good attitude. If no one corrects them, they end up not only ruining their lives but of the lives of the people they have affected. I believe respect is the most important thing in this world (as stated in the first question). If that person doesn't show it, how can you even stand being in the same room together talking to that person? When you think about it, people who don't show respect are the people who are alone in this world. And lastly, if people who don't know how to listen to your ideas or your opinions is similar to showing respect as well. Most especially if they think highly of themselves and not give you a chance to talk or to voice out your mind. People who just talk and talk and think they're who you should be listening to are the ones who don't know anything in this world and about this world. Those who listen, though quiet, are the wise ones for they learn with theirs ears.
What do you want to do for a living?
I would want to be an interior designer or architect or engineer when I look for a career. I have to admit that I specialize in math and I love art so I combined the two together and got a job that I enjoy. Whenever I get the chance, I buy magazines that have to do with designing houses, rooms etc. I love planning and organizing. I can reflect this in the average things I do every single day.
My second choice would most probably be, broadcasting. I enjoy socializing with people and making sure that everything is going in the right direction (if I were to be like a manager I mean).
If your friend was attacked (by a person, animal, or (in the magic world) beast), what would you do?
My first concern would be their safety. I would rush them to a medical aid. If the victim is unconscious, then i'll have to ask someone to watch over him until I return which a doctor. If no one is available, then i'll have to do it myself.
Would you ever use an Unforgivable Curse for any reason?
I personally don't think that any person deserves to be curse no matter what reason it may be. Whether they murdered someone, broke the law and just anything violent or drastic, I don't think they should be tortured to death. Best thing to do is just hand them over to prison, cause that's what it is for. I believe prison is a place where they have to spend a certain time not necessarily suffering but more of reflecting on the wrong they did or the crime they have committed.
And another is what good will it do if you torture or murder that person. It's not as if you've changed the world. If you have the courage to do any of these curses on anyone, then you only have yourself to blame. Since you did that wrong act as well, then you might as well be cursed to death. If people just continue doing this, then they'll be no justice in the world.
What do you think are your top five abilities or qualities?
1. Social skills. I sometimes enjoy being with friends and company and partying. On the other hand, there are also times when I would just want to keep to my solitary. I consider my social skills or public relating skills a big advantage for me because it has helped me achieve what I want and get me where I wanted. I won first place out of our whole batch at the Public Speaking competition so I believe I have what it takes.
2. Intelligence. I wouldn't like to brag but to be honest, i'm one of the top in our batch. My academic performance and extra curricular activities (such as sports and clubs) are equally balanced and maintain. I believe in using my intelligence wisely and only for good causes. I make sure that I always think first before I act especially in tight situations. Most of the time, I listen first before I talk because I love to learn.
3. Witty. Many people say I have to ability of being humorous and and clever at the same time. I enjoy hanging out with people who have a sense of humor because I can relate to them. I love making people laugh or at least smile especially if they're feeling down and depressed.
4. Simple. I don't need to be someone else or act like someone else to get what I want. I just stay myself and I find friends that way. I don't try so hard to fit in because i'm contented with the way I am. And I think people, most especially my friends, see that in me and believe in who I am.
5. Perfectionist. I may never be completely perfect but at least I try to be. For example, I wrote an essay, but i'm not completely satisfied with it. I end writing it until late at night just to finish it. The next day, the teacher gives me top grade for something that I worked hard on. Actually, whether or not I get something like a reward in return, i'm still a perfectionist. I don't do this to prove to others but to prove to myself.
What do you think are your top five weaknesses or worst qualities?
1. Mood. Sometimes my mood brings me down. When i'm in a bad moon, I tend to piss people off with the words and actions I do and say. Though this is the case, I try my best to overcome it and slowly I think I am.
2. Impatience. Okay, okay, I admit I am impatient sometimes. Especially when things don't go the way I planned it. For instance, I organized this project and I get irritated when people don't submit on time or when I don't really approve of their work or cooperation.
3. Fear. I fear, fear itself. Sometimes, this is what prevents me from doing what I can. But what I fear most is failure. Especially me being a perfectionist, I wouldn't even dream of having low grades or not being able to keep up to my own expectations. That is what hurts me the most.
4. Unnecessary Worry/Tension. When things don't happen like they're suppose to, I tend it get worried especially when it concerns family and friends. For example, I expected someone to come over to my house around 1pm. It's already 1:30pm and they're not yet here. I tried calling their cellphone and it couldn't be reached. I start panicking either because I need to get something done or i'm worried for their own safety. I try contacting all means possible to see where they are or if they are okay. No ones knows so I end up worrying even more. Ten minutes later, they arrive and I just become to thankful. It turns out they got caught in traffic or had to pass by somewhere first. And their cellphone has run out of battery.
5. Tendency to give up. I think that is self-explainable.
Define in your own words the following key traits:
Courage: To be able to do something whether it's right or wrong. To stand up to someone whom you fear. Courage is when you have the strength to accomplish things, even when your heart does not desire.
Loyalty: To be true to another, no matter what the cause. If your friend choose to do something and it is not something you would want to do, you would still be right by his side because he is depending on you.
Intelligence: Intelligence is the ability to learn and to listen. It is when you are able to see other points of view and to know when to listen or to talk. It is the ability to know what is right from wrong. One cannot be intelligent if he does not learn to listen to others first. This is how they learn. Once achieved, I believe they can do anything they wish because intelligence goes a long way and often leads to success.
Ambition: The desire to achieve something. Most people want to achieve greatness or success in this world and they believe that nothing can stop them. Sometimes, they become to ambitious and do not see that they hurt and "trample on" others on their way to greatness. What these people do not realize is that the "small people" they meet on their way, are the ones that bring them to the top.
Name: Erin
Age: 15 (turning 16 in June)
What house do you think DOESN'T fit you? Probably Slytherin. For some reason, I cannot imagine myself being in that house. I don't think being "ambitious" or "cunning" is not even included in my top 15 qualities. I think Hufflepuff doesn't fit me as well because I don't think I have much of their qualities. I apologize for being so picky but i'm just being honest.
