(no subject)

If you could change one thing about the world, what would it be?

I'd give everyone a decent amount of common sense. I think that would make things a lot simpler. Well, if not simpler, I don't know - better-run? Of course, common sense is entirely subjective, so I'd give them the closest approximation.

What makes a person respectable?

Honesty, loyalty, and an adherence to one's moral compass - mostly the faith that what you're doing is right. Faith in oneself is a necessity. I respect intelligence a lot, but I respect self-awareness more, especially the knowledge of one's flaws. I respect ambition and the drive to get where you want to be.

What do you look for in a friend?

I look for intelligence, mostly; I need to be able to have the occasional decent conversation. I look a lot for a sense of humor, because I also need the occasional pointless conversation. Originality of character is nice; I don't do well with the same type of people. I have to be interested in someone. I look a bit for kindness, but it's more a fringe benefit than an absolute necessity; not being terribly kind myself, I can't logically expect it in anyone else. Mostly I just look for people that interest me.

What are your hobbies?

I write. A lot. About everything. I also read, a lot, about most things; I love listening to music of almost all kinds but can't play it to save my life. Harry Potter can logically be considered a hobby, I suppose, though it's closer to a slightly creepy obsession. I like all facets of journalism - I'm the Features section editor on my school's newspaper, so I write as well as design, and I like reading newspapers of all kinds when I can get my hands on them. My long-standing favorite is the Weekly World News.

Have or would you give time and money to a charity?

Eh. If I had nothing better to do. I know, logically, that it's nice and useful to do stuff like that, but I only give if I have more than I conceivably need, and then only a few bucks or maybe an hour. I have better things to do.

What is the one thing you would most like to accomplish?

I'd like to publish a novel or a short story collection and have it succeed. Leaving a lasting mark on the literary world, doing what you love most all the time, AND making enough money to live on? Now that's what I call a job.

Who is your role model?

Don't have one. The closest would be my dad, but he never got as far as he wanted to, and I want to get where I want to be I think more than he did (if that sentence makes any sort of sense). He just kind of gave up - took a few classes at a college and met my mom and settled down. I know he had dreams; he didn't follow through on them because there was something - someone, rather - he wanted more. I've never met anyone I wanted more than my dream, and while I think it's possible I could, right now my goals are the most important thing to me.

What trait most annoys you about other people?

Stupidity and an unwillingness to understand that which they don't understand. I can't imagine not trying to do something or to understand something at least a few times before it becomes clear I can't - people who you say a word to that they don't understand and just look blank baffle me. I mean, most people have the decency to look confused - that's a look that says that they don't know and wish they did. The blankness is just, like, acceptance. Bizarre. And unsettling.

What do you want to do for a living?

I want to write because I love to write, but I'll never stay alive writing - I'm not good enough and natural talent gets you only so far - so I'll probably end up a teacher, writing on the side, until I can get something published. But I will be published by the end, even if it's in a crummy magazine.

If your friend was attacked (by a person, animal, or (in the magic world) beast), what would you do?

Ideally? Charge in and do something about it. Actually? Scream a lot. Panic and do something that could potentially be useful but manage to bungle it and then go for help.

Would you ever use an Unforgivable Curse for any reason?

Maybe the Imperius if someone was going to hurt one of my friends of family or myself, or if it was absolutely necessary. I wouldn't ever use the other two. While I think that all is fair in love and war and sort of agree with torture if you're going for information, I don't have the stomach to do that myself, and murder is repugnant to me.

What do you think are your top five abilities or qualities?

1. Intelligence
2. Sense of humor/sarcasm
3. Intuition
4. Ability to think clearly in minor crises (nothing involving physical attacks, but things like deadlines approaching quickly with no work done)
5. Writing ability

What do you think are your top five weaknesses or worst qualities?

1. Constant self-deprecation
2. Lack of physical ability to do, really, anything
3. Lack of tact
4. Bitchiness
5. Not trying hard in anything that I don't like (lack of motivation for necessary evils)

Define in your own words the following key traits:

Courage: Going through with something when you're scared of it - if you're not scared, it's not courage, it's mindless heroism. Conquering fear is infintely more honorable and good a quality than the lack of fear.
Loyalty: Sticking by someone you care for (provided they've not gone mad and have begun not being them), even when you don't want to or when it's bad for you
Intelligence: Ability to reason logically and think critically - thinking beyond the normal 'I wonder what shirt I'll wear today' sort. Philosophical thought is intelligent thought. That sort of thing.
Ambition: Desire to get something you want. (edit: and the instinct to follow through with that desire.)

Name: Charlotte
Age: 16
What house do you think DOESN'T fit you? Hufflepuff. I'm not kind, I'm not optimistic, and I'm not that hard a worker, which are the key Hufflepuff traits (I think).

I saw a comment on my_sim_stories - someone's icon was a quote from here, and someone asked where they'd got it, and the icon person provided a link.
