Sort me?

Sorry if this is a bit long, I talk too much.

If you could change one thing about the world, what would it be?
When I first saw this question I had this weird déjà-vu of a beauty pageant. I could go all out and say world peace but that goes against human nature. I guess I’d like every starved chid, every person who was born into poverty and war to be saved. People who have no control over the lives they where born into, I want them to have control. I hate those World Vision things that run on TV and every time I see them I want to cry.

What makes a person respectable?
To me a respectable person is someone who will stick to their values and beliefs no matter what and be able to respect others for their opinions as well. They don’t necessarily have to share your values (though certain things are non-negotiable ie, racism, sexism etc) but if tested they won’t back down and fight for what they believe in. It’s having faith in your thinking and knowing at some point that yes you did make the right decision.

What do you look for in a friend?
Someone who can cope with me and my mood swings. Someone who’ll listen to the random things I say and someone whose random musings are just perfectly clear to me. They’ll have to share a few common interests but not be a carbon copy of me. I think that world can only handle one me anyway. Someone who I can argue with and not be worried about offending them. Someone who knows when you need to cry and knows when you need to laugh as well. Someone that I could love and that would love me no matter what.

I guess I’m just listing the traits that my own friends have because we fit each other so well. I love my friends and really there’s reason why you can choose them though I honestly have no idea why they chose me.

What are your hobbies?
The two main ones are reading and writing. I’m an avid reader, have been since the age of five and I’ve been writing for just as long. I’ll read just about anything that I can get my grubby hands on and I’ll write just about anything as well, poetry, short stories, novels and fanfic.

Thought I’m not sure if this is a hobby I’m quite interested in anthropology and history. The past fascinates me and the way whole cultures can emerge out of a few things and contrast sharply to each other is just cool.

Have or would you give time and money to a charity?
Due to my limited budget I don’t get to give much but whenever I buy something and there’s a donation box next to the checkout counter my change sort of disappears. I know that most of the time the money doesn’t fully reach the people it should but I still do it anyway, my guilty conscience is somewhat appeased. Whenever I have old clothes it’s always donated to the used clothing bin.

But I’ve promised myself that when I do get enough money I want to sponsor a few children through those charities you see on TV. I know that some of the money doesn’t reach the children but in the end they still get water and food and education right? That’s all that matters. I’ve also promised myself that I’d buy an acre or two of the rainforest. But of course this is when I’m in a much more stable position than I am now, financially anyway.

What is the one thing you would most like to accomplish?
I’d like to become published. I would love to have my stories out there for the world to see though I’d be wrong to say that only that would make me happy. I’d love for someone to love my books, if just a few people write to me and tell me how much they love my characters and my ideas I think I’d be very happy.

Who is your role model?
This is tough. There are so many people that I would like to mention but truly my role model is Ghandi. He inspired a whole nation to stand up for themselves and do so without a bloodbath. One of my favourite quotes belongs to him, “an eye for an eye will only make the whole world blind”. He saw horrific things but he somehow saw the good in people too. It was painfully ironic that someone as peaceful as him died in such a violent way but he left behind a legacy that had inspired others and that will continue to do so until his memory dwells in the hazy realm between history and legend.

What trait most annoys you about other people?
Since the question says annoy I’m not going into heavy things. The thing that irks me about people is... bad grammar (were you expecting something more dramatic?). I’m a grammar whore, I cringe at misspelled words, shudder at un-capitalized sentences and just scream at leet speak. I get things that are just overlooked by accident but torturing the English language on purpose makes me want to get a large hammer.

What do you want to do for a living?
I honestly have no clue, my whole life I’ve switched career choices more than I can count. I want to be able to wake up every morning and be able to look forward to my job instead of dreading it. First choice would be to become an author but only a small percentage of people actually do make it and so I better have something good to fall back on. Right now nothing particularly interests me and so I’m still deciding though I have a vague interest in being an anthropologist right now I don’t know exactly where that’ll take me.

If your friend was attacked (by a person, animal, or (in the magic world) beast), what would you do?
In flight or fight I’d pick fight. Attack with anything really, a stone, a stick or magic if I had a wand. As soon as the attacker was distracted I’d check up on my friend, if she’s alright we’d both fend of our assailant together though if not I guess I would run like mad making sure the attacker is following. As soon as I managed to lose it I’d go back to my friend, though if this happened in real life I think I’d just freeze for a few moments before blinking and realising what happened. Then I’d probably forget my plan and just run in screaming like a madwoman.

Would you ever use an Unforgivable Curse for any reason?
Depends on the situation, if it’s the scenario where it’s one life over hundreds then yes I’d use the Unforgivable. If it’s just one life for another it depends on who’s going to die, my friend over an enemy guess who I’d pick. However one friend or the other really would drive me crazy, I really don’t want to think about that.

What do you think are your top five abilities or qualities?
Hmm, that’s a tough one. I don’t want to come of as conceited now do I? Not that I am conceited you know. ;)

I honestly think I’m an OK writer, though by no means a great one. I like to think I have a bit of talent and I’m constantly trying to improve. My ideas might not be the most complex or engaging but whenever I do write I get this warm feeling inside that something private and pretty in my brain has just come out and has sounded better than I ever really thought possible.

If someone gave me a horrible piece of art or writing that they did and asked me what I thought I would tell them it’s awful. Ok, I wouldn’t be so harsh but I would tell them I don’t like it, but I would tell them what I don’t like about it but I wouldn’t tell them that they should change it. Art and writing is a personal thing and you should never change it to suit someone and er, what was the point of this? Oh yes, I’m honest. White lies are occurrences in my life but not very common ones and I’d like to keep it that way.

I like to think I’m intelligent. Not genius level but somewhere underneath. A murky thing that when used properly can get interesting results. Some people can never study once in their life and still pass every test they get with flying colours. Me? I study once and I still pass. The colours might not be breathtaking but there's still a rainbow. ;)

I’m not sure if this counts but… I know a lot of words. I mean, I know the big ones and the small ones and I’m usually not bad at explaining their meanings either. In short, I’m a word nerd. I soak up bits and pieces of information and while I don’t always remember everything I do have a recollection of some of it and it can be quite useful and amusing at times. I’ve been known to make up words as well but not too often.

I’m very opinionated. I usually have a stand on every topic from the trivial to the controversial. And if I don’t I just listen until I do. I’m flexible about certain issues but some are just ironclad in my mind. I love a good debate, something that had gotten me into trouble in the past. I like to think that I don’t shy away from an argument but I don’t exactly go looking for one either.

What do you think are your top five weaknesses or worst qualities?
This is a bit simpler, it’s always easier to pick at your faults than your weaknesses because here you can say as much as you want and people will just think that you’re being to hard on yourselves. At least some people would anyway. But trust me, I'm not being hard on myself.

I’m much too talkative, no doubt you’d have found out from reading this application but if you get me started I can go on and on and on about practically everything. The bad thing is some people can talk about anything and sound polished and their ideas are just engaging. When talking to someone I can have the most horrible time trying to get the point of whatever it is I’m saying across. It’s much easier to write everything down, you can somewhat organize everything.

I can be very trusting. I’ve got a bleeding heart and just one sob story is enough to get me sighing. I do take everything with a pinch of salt but certain things make me want to take out the part of my brain that insists on being cynical (those stories can also make me want to take my wallet out but that’s something else entirely).

I’m shy. Horribly so, I’m that girl that sits in the corner at a party she didn’t want to go to. It can take me a while to open up but when I do you want me to just shut up already. I just seem to give off this vibe that says ‘don’t even bother’. I need to work on that...

I’m lazy. I’m a terrible procrastinator and most of my work is usually done the day before it’s due. I’m sure that most of you have done this before though probably not as many times as I have. For those who have never procrastinated I truly am in awe.

I can be way too cynical. You should see my lj sometimes, I can bitch about many things because... well because I can be annoyed by a vast amount of things. While I did say above that I have a bleeding heart it only applies to children and animals. Everyone else gets to see the sceptic in me. Not to say that I’m a bitch, though I’ve been known to be a bit bitchy when protecting the herd as it where.

Define in your own words the following key traits:
All of these traits have their own strengths and weaknesses but together they really do make up for the later and add to the former.

Courage: It means being able to rush headfirst into battle, whether physically or emotionally and give it your all. Being able to die for a cause knowing that others will live because of it. If you’re courageous I think that you’d make a good parent, parents tend to be much braver when they’re faced with things dealing with their children, but I think being a parent probably gives you this hidden courage that’s just instinct.

Courage can also have its negative aspects as all things do, daring people can sometime ignore their inborn fears and sometimes fear is just an instinct that one must follow. They can also tend to rush into danger and come out scared. Brave people tend to be daredevils and some people just can’t learn from their mistakes. They think with their heart instead of their head and it can lead to sticky situations.

Courage is that little thing that chases away the monsters under the bed.

Loyalty: It means being able to stick with someone. It takes an enormous amount of trust to be loyal to someone, even it’s just being loyal to yourself. People who have someone to be loyal to obviously have reasons for it, it can be shared opinions, beliefs or a common goal. Whatever it is the knowledge that there’s someone out there that agrees with you, that you can identify with, it can make a person happy and people who know where their loyalties lie are quite content.

Of course there’s also blind loyalty, following someone without having the slightest clue what you’re doing. This can be dangerous because you can walk head on into danger and even to your own death. People who follow someone blindly are usually just pawns and can sometimes be forced to take the blame for things that had nothing to do with them.

Loyalty is that little thing that lets you die for someone else.

Intelligence: Intelligence is always a nice thing to have. Knowledge and understanding are always important in whatever you do because, knowing how it works and how to use the situation to your advantage is always helpful. Intelligent people usually the ones you look for if you need help and their intelligence doesn’t always have to fall into the category of book smarts either, street smarts are extremely useful and important as well.

Of course intelligence is useless without experience. You could know exactly how to open a safe but the diagrams and words can be daunting when faced with the actual task of unlocking the lock. Sometimes people get swept up with their brains and learning and forget about things like common sense and other things and so they crash down to earth quite painfully.

Intelligence is that little thing that tells you exactly how to get out of the locked room.

Ambition: It drives people to do great things. The people that are at the top, that have fame and fortune are always ambitious, or they are driven by ambitious people. Ambitious people know when to lay the charm and when to shut up. They’re very diplomatic though they always seem to be able to get what they want. In war ambition helps people win, you just have to know how to stack the cards. Cunning and ambition go hand in hand.

But if people get too ambitious they can forget about everything else and that can lead to trouble. They wheel and deal and might not care how high the body count goes. Human emotion isn’t important and is always a liability. Love is the biggest weakness of all, besides power can be the ultimate aphrodisiac. But what’s the point of having the world if there’s nothing else left?

Ambition is that little thing that lets you win and every game you play.

Name:
Pallavi. It means musical chorus in Sanskrit. Even though I don’t have a musical bone it my body I like to sing along with the radio. Off tune of course.

Age: 15. It’s a worthless age, one more year and you can drive… it’s taunting really.

What house do you think DOESN'T fit you? (This question is optional for those who feel they just DO NOT fit in a house. Please explain WHY.)

Where did you find out about us?
Erm, through takarakanashi.
