Name: Maeritrae
Age: 19...although I'll be 20 on the 19th of December, so this is only accurate for another couple of weeks.

If you could change one thing about the world, what would it be? I don't think I'm qualified to make that decision...although in spite of myself, I'd probably replace half the American government. I know, I'm not even American, I shouldn't meddle in their affairs. But it's the only thing I can think of that I believe would have more of a positive effect on the world than a negative one. If you ask for magic powers, then what's to stop evil people from misusing them? (Oh, and while I hate most of the Republican party, I'm not especially fond of a good chunk of the Democrats either. Basically I'd like to get rid of all the corrupt, cruel people in the most powerful body in the world, and replace them with better people.)
Who is your favorite Hogwarts teacher? McGonagall, of course! She's assertive and quick-witted, but sensible, and she tries to take care of people. She doesn't have a lot of patience with people who misbehave.
Who is your favorite character in Harry Potter? Hermione reminds me an awful lot of myself a few years ago. I'm not sure that's a good thing. I think I'll have to go with Lupin.
Who is your least favorite character in Harry Potter? Lucius Malfoy. A grown man who should know better, who thinks he's better than pretty much anyone for no good reason, and has no scruples at all.
What makes a person respectable? You don't honestly expect me to manage to cover everything here, do you? Well, let's see. People should try to take care of one another in any way they can; they should do their best in anything they turn their hand to; they should try to accept differences between themselves and other people as best they can. There are many, many more things, but I don't think this question could ever be fully answered.
What is your take on religion? I'm a Roman Catholic, but I have a lot of issues with the Church as an entity. I believe that there is a supreme being, but that to try to capture it in a tiny little idea that humans have put together and changed and twisted and corrupted is really silly. The best we can do is find our own way to come into contact with it. In that way, I feel that any faith is justified and is a good thing, but that assuming one's own faith is the only one with any justification is wrong.
What do you think about house elves? If they're happy taking care of people, let them. I think that every one of them should be offered freedom, although not forced to take it, and that there should be rules and laws that govern how they can be treated. But if they are really happy with their jobs, there doesn't seem to be much point in stopping them.
What do you look for in a friend? Loyalty, intelligence (I know, it's pretty lame but I grew up in a fairly bright household with the result that I kind of ramble on about obscure things and I can't bear the kind of vacant look some people get when they listen to me; it makes me feel like a complete freak), a willingness to accept me as who I am no matter what.
Would you rather have friends and family or money and success? Friends and family! No question.
If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be? I'd probably get rid of this dreadful pain in my neck. Just kidding. I'd try to make myself more aware of other people, and of how the world needs to be run.
What do you feel is your best quality? I'd like to say something like "I always listen to people" or "I take care of everyone"...but however much I try, I'm not very good at those things. So probably mathematical or linguistic ability.
What are your hobbies? I use the internet a whole lot. Cinema, reading. I don't go out clubbing or drink at all.
Do you want to have children? Yes...but not until I have my PhD at least. And I think an absolute maximum of 3, but I might foster more than that depending on financial circumstances.
Have or would you give time and money to a charity? Yes, but at the moment I'm very busy with college, and I'm not earning enough to give large amounts of money away.
If your friend was attacked (by a person, animal, or (in the magic world) beast), what would you do? Defend them, of course. Anything I could do. I'm a fairly vicious fighter from scrapping with my brother while we were growing up, but I'd probably prefer to use magic to defeat it if I could. Still, it all else fails...I'd probably bite it.
What is the one thing you would most like to accomplish? Finally figure out how to relate to other people. (You know you've got a problem when your doting parents sit you down and tell you that, for your own good, you've really got to learn to deal with people...or you'll have serious trouble doing things like holding down a job.)
Who is your role model? I don't think I have one. There are dozens of people that I respect or admire, but picking out one person that I want to be like in every way is just limiting myself too much.
What trait most annoys you about other people? Treating other people like dirt for no reason. I hate that.
What do you want to do for a living? I want to be a Professor of Physics or Mathematics. (I'm 2 1/2 years into a Theoretical Physics degree so it's a very definite possibility.)
Would you ever use an Unforgivable Curse for any reason? Probably. It would have be a very good reason. If, for example, someone I cared about was in danger and I couldn't think of any other way to save them than to curse whoever was attacking them; and even then I'd probably try for something a little less drastic. If I were up against a seriously powerful wizard that I would have no chance of defeating in a duel, though, I'd probably take them right out the only way I could.
What house do you think DOESN'T fit you? (This question is optional for those who feel they just DO NOT fit in a house. Please explain WHY.) I don't think I'd fit into Hufflepuff, because while I do try to be nice and kind and helpful, on a basic who-am-I level I'd say I tend more not to notice when people need help, or if I do notice I don't know what to do. I'd like to say I don't fit into Slytherin, because I don't think I'm better than anyone on spec (say, because someone is a Muggle); but it's true that if someone behaves in a manner I find unpardonable (blatant rudeness and disrespect for people, that kind of thing) then I can be rather nasty about them, and if ambition were taken as the only qualification I'd probably be thrown straight in there.
What do you think are your top five abilities or qualities?
I'm good at maths/physics.
I'm very good at languages.
I try to take care of people and I won't put up with bullying.
I can usually be accurate and impartial about things.
I try to deal with things as quickly and as efficiently as I can.
Where did you find out about us? cleolinda

It's possible that some of what I wrote up there doesn't make sense. Sorry about that. I tend to answer questions very much in the now, and not take account of other answers. But it's all accurate for a given question.
