Dance, Magic, Dance!

  • What sort of profession in the wizarding world would you choose and why?
I would be a Magical Art Historian. Someone has to keep these old portraits in line! It would be fascinating, just imagine being able to speak with a figure in a painting. There would be little question as to what the original artist meant, the painting could tell you! I would, of course, dabble in Art Restoration, to keep theses voices strong and healthy for future generations. The key to the future is in the past, and one must be willing to listen to those voices. Especially when they’re so eager to make themselves heard.

  • If you could teach one class at Hogwarts, what would it be and why?
History of Magic. History is fascinating to begin with, throw in magic and it becomes a whole other issue. It would also be interesting to start a double course, perhaps a two-teacher taught course in History of Magic and Muggle Studies. A side by side comparative course in which students would learn how muggles perceive the world and what really happened.

  • This year, The TriWizard Tournament is being held once again and you're of age. Do you put your name in the Goblet? Why or why not?
Most likely not. I would think about it seriously, consider my abilities, and at the last moment chicken out. While the TriWizard Tournament is intriguing to watch, the tasks that are set before students are terrifying. I’m a behind the scenes kind of girl. Of course, I would lie and tell my friends that I TOTALLY put my name in. You know, when they were looking the other way. Seriously. Totally did.

  • If you could choose your animagus form, what would it be and why?
It may not be very original, but a house cat. They’re cute, they’re cuddly, and they’re independent. A cat is quick on its feet and intelligent. Cats are small enough they can get into tricky areas and get themselves out. Not to mention cats are the classic, they’re like the little black dress of the Wizarding World. The stereotypical ‘familiar’. Not to mention the ancient Egyptians worshiped them. Hundreds of years of history can’t be wrong! (please ignore hundred years of wars and unpleasant things as it contradicts my point  )

  • If you could be written into any HP Series book as a new character, which book would it be, and who would your character be? Why did you choose that book/character?
Book five, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. OotP introduces a variety of kooky characters from the ministry and it opens up a position for interesting new characters. I would want to be somehow involved with either side of the war, basically someone with a strong stance(I liked to believe I’d be on the side of the order, seeing as the good guys generally win. My chances of survival go up substantially with the order. That and Remus Lupin? Fangirl. Oh yeah.). I’ll go based on the assumption that my character would be Order-based. I would not be an auror or anyone on the front lines. I work best back stage. I prefer high-minded positions, such as working on designing missions, or working out information on Deatheaters and the like.

  • What is your favorite magical spell/charm? Why?
Do Jinxes apply? I’m fond of the Snitch Jinx. I am by nature a trusting person. However, when I am betrayed I feel the wrath of the devil. For a short period only, of course, I am quick to calm down, but I do have the very strong desire to know just who did it. And once my trust is broken I can be snippy. Very snippy. A Snitch jinx is useful in that not only does it show just who did the snitching, but it acts as a deterrence. I suppose it shows a lack of trust to begin with, but some things are important enough to risk the question of trust.

  • Name three reasons why you would like to be sorted into each House.

    Huffle Puff
    1. Huffle Puffs are so sweet! Or at least that’s the stereotype about them. I imagine it would be quite easy to make friends in Huffle Puff.
    2. The pressure to be the best is eased here. There is more of a focus on hard-work. Do your best, the rest will come to you in time.
    3. One word: Badger!

    Ravenclaw
    1. House of the smarties! To be deemed intelligent enough to join the prestigious ranks of Ravenclaw is reason enough. Now I know this "Ravenclaw is for the intelligent!" thought process could be deemed stereotypical. Sorting is based on personality and one's own characteristics. But Ravenclaw is the house that places a high importance on the use of that intelligence, it's a mind-based house. I like that a lot, this emphasis on learning for the sake thereof.
    2. Ravenclaw is a mind-centered house, like Slytherin. However, it is a meritocracy. Rank and social status, while family affects it, is based upon one’s own personal achievements.
    3. Ravenclaw seems to avoid the morality question. It is not automatically slipped into the stereotypes it’s sister houses are. It is about the individual rather than the group.

    Slytherin
    1. The aura of Slytherin is deliciously mysterious. One never knows what you’re going to get with a Slytherin.
    2. The pedigree of the house of Slytherin is impressive and worth close study. Not to mention the power intrigues among students are like a soap opera, acted out before you. What is especially fascinating is the level of determination and
    3. It’s the only house without a tone of yellow in the colors. This seems arbitrary, but think about it. This unique detail is representative on just how different this house is. The silver is cool, detached, unique. If one were to write an essay on color symbolism of the Hogwarts Houses, the Slytherin paragraph would easily be the most interesting

    Gryffindor.
    1. Gryffindors are the classic good guys. It’s nice to feel as though you are a part of something positive and brave.
    2. The Gryffindor symbol is the lion. The design alone is so appropriate and the symbolism screams for attention.
    3. Gryffindors seem to be good at everything, particularly quidditch. I like being able to root for a winning team. It’s sort of sad, but at least I own it.

  • You've received your O.W.L results. What are your results? (You have to have failed or done poorly in at least one subject)

Ancient Runes: O. Ancient runes are like another language. I do well with languages, it’s just a matter of memorization. Simple.

Astronomy: E. I enjoy learning about the paths of the stars. It’s not my natural inclination to be very good with this, however, and therefore I would have studied extra hard for this and during the test, have taken my sweet time.

Care of Magical Creatures: A. I like animals, and dealing with magical animals just adds to the interest level. I don’t like touching them though. Unless they’re cute and fuzzy. And.Um. Well. Hagrid. Right.

Charms: A. this is an easy class. And because of that I’d probably blow it off and not study for it. Eh. A works.

DADA: O. DADA is like a practical history class to me. It’s taking the spells, curses, jinxes, etc., etc., that have been designed over the years and discussing their influence, importance and how to deal with them. And dark creatures are just cool.

Herbology: A. I don’t have a green thumb (that’s my mother, not me) and in general, I don’t like being in the dirt or doing manual labor. But I imagine I’d do well enough on the written exam to not worry about the practical.

History of Magic: O. I am a history nut. I have the kind of mind that learns well from lecture-based teaching and I have a passion for it. I would have been disappointed to earn anything other than an O.

Potions: D. Ah. Potions. I just don’t like it. It’s a matter of precision, and my hands are far too shaky for that. And I’m dreadful with numbers, so exact measurements? Not so much.

Transfiguration: E. This class would take every minuted of complete attention and hard work. It seems like the most useful class, and while I might not be as interested in it, for a career in the magic world, I imagine it would help.

  • If you could have any superpower - but only ONE - what would it be?
Invisibility. Then I could be super nosey and no one would ever know. I could just walk around, listen in on conversations, find out what people are saying. That sounds really bad, but at least I’m honest. That and I could be alone when ever I wish. If someone is irritating me? Up goes the invisibility and woosh. I’m all by my lonesome.

  • What HP character do you identify with most and why?
Movie-verse!Seamus. All I want to do is make some rum. Just kidding! I would say Molly Weasley. I put a strong importance on family. I love my family so much and would do anything for them. The scene where Molly faced her boggart? I broke into tears. I can’t even imagine that. And Molly is a strong woman. I respect that.

  • What would you see if you looked into the Mirror of Erised?
I would see myself in a highly successful career that I enjoy. That’s my greatest desire, to be able to enjoy what I do for a living, and be able to live comfortably doing so. I’m not entirely sure on how the Mirror of Erised would show that. Perhaps I would see myself in a museum, dressed in stylish yet comfortable clothes, discussing a Caravaggio.

  • If you won a million dollars, how would you spend it?
First I would pay for college. College is not cheap, especially when one is attending a top-tier, private, liberal arts college(their words, not mine). I would then make sure my mother is living comfortably and is taken care of. That woman has done so much for me, it’s the least I could do in return. Following that I would pay for grad-school. Get as much education as physically possible. If I had extra money after that? I would donate to the Wilson Theater Company. It is the only thing that kept me sane during my High School years, and I would give my soul to the amazing people involved. And if I still had money? Maybe I’d buy a senator. Yeah, that’s it. I’d buy a U.S. Senator. I hear they’re relatively cheap these days.

  • Which HP book is your favorite and why?
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. This book gave a sense of the outside Wizarding World and I loved it. International Relations of the muggle world is interesting enough? But relations between various Ministries of Magic? Amazing. I loved the contrast of Hogwarts against Durmstrang and Beauxbatons. And I have a certain weakness for Viktor Krum. It’s my Eastern European heritage, methinks. It’s pleased to have a Spokes-person in Viktor.

  • Which HP book is your least favorite and why?
Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. This book just didn’t do it for me. The pace was uneven and I didn’t find myself caring about who was the heir of Slytherin. I enjoyed the scenes with Lockhart, but that was about it. It’s the only book I haven’t read more than twice.

  • What was your ideal job as a kid? Has that changed? What is your ideal job now?
When I was very little I wanted to be a ballerina. I never had a dance lesson in my life. It has most definitely changed. My desire to be a ballerina as a child came from my love for the beautiful. Ballerinas are graceful and stunning. Now I enjoy art history. Instead of wanting to be the ballerina, I would rather examine Degas’ paintings of one. An ideal job would be curator of a museum. Not only do I deal with the artwork, it is also a chance for me to deal with other countries and cultures. Especially Italy, I have a deep, abiding love of Italy and it’s art.

  • If you were able to invent one spell, potion, or charm, what would it do, what would you use it for or how would you use it, and what would you call it?
I would invent a spell for all of those who procrastinate (it’s a lifestyle, what can I say). The spell would slow down time so you could get those extra minutes in there to finish your 10 page rant about the Hanging Gardens of Babylon in plenty of time to hand it in. It would be called Arrestodi Tempo. Mainly because I don’t know Latin, but I do know Italian. I combined Arresto and di for purely fanciful reason. JK seems to be in a habit of doing the same. And Arrestodi is pretty.

  • If you were to face a boggart, what would it turn into? And what does it turn into when you throw the counter-spell, Riddikulus?
I am scared of a ton of things. The easier things for a boggart to latch onto are aliens, spiders and tornadoes. Perhaps it would turn into an alien-spider riding a tornado! …or more likely it would just be a freaked out Alien coming to EAT me. And after the counterspell? It would be the alien from Spice World. Wanting my autograph. On its engorged belly. Who wouldn’t laugh at that? Wait. That was creepy too….oh dear.

  • What do you look for in a friend?
Intelligence. I, unfortunately, am a horrendous snob. If we’re having a discussion and I bring up the Medici’s, I expect my friends to understand what I’m talking about. I also expect a level of loyalty. Brand loyalty if you will. I like people with a good sense of humor, and don’t mind making dirty jokes. I also need people to accept me for who I am.

  • What is the one thing you would most like to accomplish?
A career. I want to have a successful career and be able to support myself. I have no idea exactly how I’m going to go about that, but that’s what college is for, right? Ever since I was little I have been completely content to rely on my parents for everything. The real world scares me, and if I could have anything, it would be the complete ability to take care of myself. That means I need financial freedom, and that comes from having a career.

  • What trait most annoys you about other people?
Self-pity. I know everyone indulges in this from time to time, that’s fine. I myself am guilty of it. But when it is nonstop? I hate it. And I hate it when people fish for compliments. It’s incredibly selfish and it is a huge waste of time. Be stronger than that, people. It’s not all that hard.

  • What do you think are your top five abilities or qualities?

Intelligence: I am a smart girl. I’m sure everyone is sick of hearing me say that, but I’m proud. It was always something stressed in my family and I am very much a product of my family.

Creativity: I love art and I love creating it. I’ve been involved with the arts since I can remember. I am actively involved in theater and delight when a project calls for design or drawing. I am very good at deciding what’s aesthetically pleasing.

pragmatic: I get things done. I am willing to compromise to make sure things happen. While I am ideological as they come, I realize that at time I need to concede my own opinions for the greater good. At the same time, I am not a pushover. There are lines that are not to be crossed.

Kind Overall, I am a nice person. I believe in giving people the benefit of the doubt until they’ve proven I should do otherwise. I do not judge people by appearance and get very uncomfortable when others do so.

loyal I am a loyal person. When someone has my love, I will go through hell and back for them. My family is the number one important thing in my life, followed closely by my friends. If someone hurts them? They are automatically the devil in my eyes. I love Christmas, because it give me a chance to spoil my friends.

  • What do you think are your top five weaknesses or worst qualities?

lazy: I am so lazy. If it involves too much energy, it will take m forever to do it. And I will complain the entire time. In fact, I almost didn’t finish this application I was so la

Snob: As stated above, I can be an intellectual snob. This sometimes gets in the way of my ability to be open-minded. This is something I am actively working on, but it sometimes slips out. My bad.

Procrastination I have a bad habit of waiting until the last minute to do things. 10 page essay? That can so wait. College applications? December is just as good as October for sending those in! it affects my grades negatively at times. Ouch.

Impatience I am an antsy person and I do not like to wait. Once I’ve lost interest in something, there is little to no hope for it in my mind. Especially if it’s someone taking to long to complete a task I could finish quickly.

slob I am not a neatfreak. I’m not a complete mess either, but for someone who rooms with neatfreak, my side of the room is a disaster area. This is directly related to my laziness factor. Pfft. That soda bottle is very happy sitting on my desk, thank you very much, let it be!

  • Define in your own words the following key traits:
    • Courage: The ability to stand for what one believes, no matter what, in the face of any obstacle.
    • Loyalty: Fidelity to persons or an idea.
    • Intelligence: the collection of knowledge a person possesses and ability to comprehend it.
    • Ambition: The desire to live ones dreams and to do so through any means.
