(no subject)

  • What sort of profession in the wizarding world would you choose and why?
I would love to work at St. Mungo's as a healer, or perhaps at Hogwarts as Madam Pomfrey's assistant, or in a veterenary clinic for magical creatures. Taking care of others is something that brings me a sense of great satisfaction, and I would like knowing that I'm making a difference in the world (cheesey but true).

  • If you could teach one class at Hogwarts, what would it be and why?
Charms always seemed like a very handy subject to master, I think. Some might take it for granted because it isn't as fancy as Potions or Transfiguration, but it's the most useful for everyday life.

  • This year, The TriWizard Tournament is being held once again and you're of age. Do you put your name in the Goblet? Why or why not?
I wouldn't, I'm simply not that brave or risk-takey. Dying before I graduate isn't on my agenda :)

  • If you could choose your animagus form, what would it be and why?
If I were using my animagus form mostly to slink around undetected, or for pleasure, or something like that, I would choose a kitten. They're fast, small, able to hide well, and too adorable for anyone to want to hurt. If I needed an animagus form as a means of protection, I'd definitely go with a bird of prey. A hawk or a falcon, something that would be fast but with sharp talons.

  • What HP character do you identify with most and why?
Either Remus Lupin or Luna Lovegood. Both of them are misunderstood by the world at large, are made fun of and ostracized, but are good people just trying to live their lives the best they can. They're loyal to their loved ones and have sharp minds (even if Luna does come off as gullible, she's had some outside-of-the-box thinking that came in handy). When I was in highschool I started off more like Lupin: queit, bookish, trying to blend in as normal but knowing that I wasn't, letting my friends get away with things I shouldn't have while being sort of a goody-goody. Toward the end I adopted more of a Luna-like attitude of, "Yeah you might make fun of me, but I LIKE my radish earrings and butterbeer cork necklace, so I'm going to wear them!" Still odd and misunderstood but not letting that dictate my life.

  • What would you see if you looked into the Mirror of Erised?
Myself, my (as yet undiscovered) love of my life, and my friends and family all safe, healthy, and happy. Plus a kitty curled up in my lap :)

  • If you won a million dollars, how would you spend it?
I would buy a new car for my mother, a small (but cozy) house for myself, pay off my parents' and my bills for the next two or three years, and donate about half of the remaining to my local school districts and low-to-no-income health care coverage programs (because having lived without medical insurance for the past year, I'm well aware of how important these programs are). The rest I would sock away for my future kid(s)'s education.

  • What was your ideal job as a kid? Has that changed? What is your ideal job now?
I always dreamed of being a teacher when I was younger. I thought there was nothing I would want more than to teach. Now I'm leaning more toward being a veternarian (as explained in the first question). Ideally, I would love to be a film director, but I have no training or money to go to film school :(

  • If you were able to invent one spell, potion, or charm, what would it do, what would you use it for or how would you use it, and what would you call it?
A charm to make music play just inside of my ears--it'd be like the world's best mp3 player without any pesky equipment :) Only the person who cast it would be able to hear it, and it'd work wonders for being in a boring lecture class, at the waiting room or DMV, anytime it'd be nice to hear some of your favourite music. I'd call it Sanus Specialis ('secret sound').

  • If you were to face a boggart, what would it turn into? And what does it turn into when you throw the counter-spell, Riddikulus?
A big, hairy, spindly-legged spider. I've always had terrrrrrible arachniphobia. When I used the Riddikulus spell, it'd become a bunch of squeaking rubber duckies!

  • What do you look for in a friend?
A good sense of humour, similar interests/taste, loyalty, kindness. People that I can easily relate to and have long conversations with, whether we're talking about politics or favourite crayon colours.

  • What trait most annoys you about other people?
Noisy, stubborn ignorance. Examples being the guy who ranted in a restaurant I worked at about how he wouldn't ever eat vegetables because they're "rabbit food" (so let's just throw nutrition right out the window!), or closed-minded religious fundamentalists who flatly refuse to believe basic truths about the world (because obviously science means nothing). The type that when you try to use logic or reason simply get defensive and more angry and you may as well be talking to brick walls.

  • What do you think are your top five abilities or qualities?
(This feels so weird, talking myself up! Also I'm not sure how to rank them, so they're not in order.) When I care about someone, I'll do anything in my power to help them. I'm very creative and quite bright so I tend to come up with solutions and ideas that other people might overlook. I'm fiercely loyal to my loved ones. I can cook like whoooaaaaa! (hey, that counts, right?) Animals and I always seem to get along startlingly well, we just 'get' each other.

  • What do you think are your top five weaknesses or worst qualities?
(This could go on for much longer than five, haaaa..) I have a hard time knowing what I truly want, and this indecisiveness has caused me to hurt people that I care about. I'm easily frustrated so I give up too easily sometimes. I hold grudges (this is linked to the loyalty--if you cross someone I love, you're blacklisted). In spite of the potential that I know I have, I tend to have a hard time motivating myself to ever FINISH anything. I'm quite stubborn and so in arguments it's very hard to get me to admit defeat (the creativity and brightness comes in here--rather than admit I'm wrong I'll argue and twist and pull things out of the air until I somehow prove myself right, or the other person gives up).

  • Define in your own words the following key traits:
    • Courage: being afraid, but doing it anyway.
    • Loyalty: standing by someone/something no matter what.
    • Intelligence: not simply knowing a wealth of facts, but being able to apply them in real life.
    • Ambition: a drive to accomplish great things.

  • Name: hilary.
  • Age: 20.
