- What sort of profession in the wizarding world would you choose and why? I think it would be great to run a little hole-in-the-wall shop in a Muggle town. The front of my store would be maybe something like a Muggle bookshop or a film store, but in the back I would constantly be brewing potions, getting in shipments of bottled butterbeer, etc. Just a neighborhood store to cut the hassle of having to fly/apparate to London or Hogsmeade and to offer a more friendly environment.
- If you could teach one class at Hogwarts, what would it be and why? Probably Ancient Runes. I'm very good with written languages and figuring out what things say, but I'm horrible at pronouncing them and trying to speak another language. Interpretting ancient texts is a great deal of fun, and is very useful. Without the knowledge of how to read the ancient spells, they would eventually be lost.
- This year, The TriWizard Tournament is being held once again and you're of age. Do you put your name in the Goblet? Why or why not? Absolutely! The Goblet of Fire knows who is best suited for the task of being the school Champion, so why not give myself the chance? If I'm not accepted, then it wasn't meant to be and I can certainly cheer on my fellow schoolmate. If I am chosen, then I haven't passed up on my opportunity to prove myself, and I would hope to do so honorably.
- If you could choose your animagus form, what would it be and why? I would love it to be something out of Africa, but that just isn't practical living in England, now is it? I suppose a more normal choice than a zebra or a giraffe would be either something like a cocker spaniel, or a horse. A horse is more likely, because a stray spaniel is likely to get sent to the pound.
- What HP character do you identify with most and why? It depends. When I was younger, I was a complete Hermione. I would always have my hand up, I always knew the answer, I thought test days were fun...I was Hermione in almost every way. However, as time has gone on, I've become much more like Ron. Ron, contrary to popular belief, it very intelligent; at the age of 12, he played the greatest game of Chess ever at Hogwarts. He has so much potential, but he just doesn't act on it. I've become lazy in my schoolwork, and I do only what's necessary, and sometimes not even that. However, when I need to be, I can be very smart and very intelligent, and it usually comes through right when it needs to; any other time I manage to just foul things up and dig myself deeper holes.
- What would you see if you looked into the Mirror of Erised? Because I really want to write someday, I'd see myself holding the published collection of a 5-books series I have all over the place in notebooks, a husband with dark hair and at least 8 inches on me in height standing over my shoulder.
- If you won a million dollars, how would you spend it? First off, I'd have to buy myself a state-of-the-art computer (that new G5 tower is looking pretty good). Then I would furnish it with the newest versions of Final Cut Pro, DVD Studio Pro, the Adobe creative suite, etc. After the computer was taken care of and I was happy as a clam, I would save $100,000 for savings purposes for the future children, $100,000 as a down payment on a house, and give the rest of it away. Likely charities would be the LDS Perpetual Education Fund, the Michael J. Fox Parkinson's Disease foundation, or any charity for Diabetes and Leukemia.
- What was your ideal job as a kid? Has that changed? What is your ideal job now? Gosh, that has changed so many times. I wanted to be a teacher when I was very little, then got interested in the sciences and switched to mineralogist. After I decided there probably weren't many rocks to be found out there anymore, I went back to teacher, but this time a middle school history teacher. That didn't last long until I decided on movie special effects, which lasted through high school. After leaving high school, I still want to do film, but I'm looking more the screenwriting route, because writing seems to be where I excel the most.
- If you were able to invent one spell, potion, or charm, what would it do, what would you use it for or how would you use it, and what would you call it? mentis translatum: This spell is capable of transferring your own thoughts to an ananimate object. It's not like it will take on a mind of its own, but it can use your thoughts and interpret them. For example, if you cast this on a quill and roll of parchment that has Potions homework questions on it, the quill will use the knowledge in your brain to complete the task. This is saving you the trouble of cramping your hand or wasting time on mindless things when you already know how to do it. Another example would be to use it on a set of cleaning of gloves. If they're in a dirty kitchen, the gloves will understand that you want them to clean and use your own expertise at cleaning to do so.
- If you were to face a boggart, what would it turn into? And what does it turn into when you throw the counter-spell, Riddikulus? My boggart would be my roommate destroying my computer because she's completely computer illiterate and thinks she knows everything. Yes, it would be her sitting in front of my computer with the bomb message on the screen (Mac's worse case scenario message). After casting Riddikulus, however, my roommate would be roped to my chair and my computer would be a PC with the Blue Screen of Death on it (because the Blue Screen of Death amuses me greatly).
- What do you look for in a friend? The ability to be stupid in public, is a big one. I rarely take myself very seriously, so I want someone who is a little crazier than I am so that I don't feel quite as crazy. I also prefer to be the big computer nerd, so someone who understands computers, but maybe not as well as I do. They also have to like to tell stories, because I love stories too much. Honesty and the ability to be upfront, whether for good or for ill, is also very important. I'd rather have a friend who's upfront that I get angry with sometimes than one who was trying to trick me for years to "be my friend."
- What trait most annoys you about other people? Their ability to never stop talking about something you don't care about. I really hate that. I hate unnatural stupidity, too, because there's nothing worse than trying to explain common sense to someone. Being naive can also be irksome; I don't mind being left in the dark in some things, but I've met people from the U.S. who had never heard of the Beach Boys, Rite Aid, Blink 182, and any number of other things.
- What do you think are your top five abilities or qualities? 1) I can write any number of things quickly on the spot. 2) I work well under pressure and rarely have a breakdown. 3) If a computer's broken, I can usually fix it. If I can't, I'm not afraid to reformat. 4) I am a very good listener (when there's a good enough reason to listen). 5) I lose my temper probably twice a year at most.
- What do you think are your top five weaknesses or worst qualities? 1) I can be too nice to people and lock myself into friendship I never wanted. 2) A little too submissive when I'm not confident. 3) When I am confident, I'm overly confident and drive people nuts. 4) Apologize too much. 5) Laugh at things that shouldn't be laughed at.
- Define in your own words the following key traits:
- Courage: The ability to stand up for things that you know are right and do it for the right reasons. You don't try and look brave and powerful for the sake of being brave and powerful. When you're courageous, you have a righteous or well-meant cause, and you're doing it because that's what you feel you need to do. Yes, when asked to do something and having the ability to do is part of it, but being able to take a step yourself is also a huge piece.
- Loyalty: To be there for people. Sometimes you'll disagree with someone's beliefs or ways of life, but you can still be there and be their friend and help them through. Loyalty doesn't count on values or circumstances; it's deeper than that. It really is "through thick and thin" and you cannot let differences get in the way. Of course, there are exceptions, such as you're trying to protect yourself or your loved ones from a former friend, then you no longer owe them loyalty, but you owe loyalty to the most righteous person or ideal.
- Intelligence: The ability to do things in a way that makes you not seem stupid. Take James Potter and Sirius Black as example. They did stupid things in their years at Hogwarts, but no one ever doubted their intelligence. Although some of the things they did were stupid, they required ingenuity, and that requires intelligence. To be intelligent doesn't mean that you're "smart" or that you have good grades, it means that you're capable of having thorough thought processes and executing them in a fashion that shows you have those thought processes.
- Ambition: Being modivated. That modivation can be good or bad, but it still has to have some kind of driving force. A goal is something that wants to be reached, but ambition is what will get you there. If comes in all kinds of degrees, and it is stepping forward, whether it be fast or slow. You may have very little ambition to get the dishes washed, but when there is nothing left to use in the cupboard, suddenly you're overcome with the ambition to clean at least one bowl. The modivation can be great or small, but it's the power that gets to an end result.
