If you could change one thing about the world, what would it be? ::sigh:: Just one!? There are so many things I want to change. Well, I guess the most important thing to me would be intolerance. I hate that just because someone is different or thinks differently so many people are willing to put them down and try to make them change, make them conform to what everyone else is doing. Our differences are what makes life so interesting and everyone has the right to live their life out the way they wish. Just because the majority of the population is doing one thing or thinks one way does not make it the right thing or the only thing to be doing/thinking.
Who is your favorite Hogwarts teacher? I have a definite soft spot for McGonagall. She’s strict, but she has this humorous streak running through her that I love. I like that she earns respect from pretty much everyone without even trying and no one dares to mess with her. But she is also fair and she can turn herself into a cat and that’s just way cool.
Who is your favorite character in Harry Potter? Without a doubt, Dumbledore. I mean, what’s not to love? He’s the most powerful wizard in the wizarding world, he knows all, sees all, could do pretty much anything he wants even the most powerful dark magic (although he is to “noble” to do anything like that as McGonagall put it), and on top of all that he has this silly fun side to him. I love that he is always humming, or making odd quirky little jokes. A lot of what makes him my favorite is also his outlook on life and many of my favorite parts of the books are Dumbledore’s talks with Harry at the end of each novel. I like his open, accepting, and forgiving nature of everyone regardless of who it is and even with people who have betrayed him in the past.
Who is your least favorite character in Harry Potter? Well, when Umbridge came along I did not think I could hate anyone as much as her. But when I really think about it, I think I despise Fudge the most greatly because of his actions in regards to the return of Voldemort. He’s so wrapped up in this perfect little world he has created for himself and he is willing to risk countless lives of innocent people in order to keep things running smoothly. He’s afraid to fight and stand up for what he knows is right, and the worst thing about it is that I am convinced he knew that Dumbledore was telling the truth the whole time but he did not want to face the truth and so he ignored it.
What makes a person respectable? People earn my respect by just being who they are without putting up a fake exterior, and when they stand up for what they believe in no matter what. It’s not always easy being yourself, especially if you are different from everyone else and the same goes for standing up for your beliefs. It’s not always an easy thing to do and so someone who is brave enough to be true to themselves earns a lot of respect in my eyes.
What is your take on religion? I am not particularly religious. I was baptized into the Lutheran church, and my aunt used to take me to church quite often when I was little, but in the more recent years I have not attended church much. I am not really sure I believe in the religion I have been brought up in. The sad truth is, I do not know enough about it to be able to make an intelligent decision on weather it is the right thing for me or not. As for religion in general- I think it can be a good thing and can unite people and bring people peace in times of trouble. But it can also be a bad thing- like when people go to war and kill people in the name of God.
What do you think about house elves? Let’s put it this way, if I went to Hogwarts I would have eagerly bought a pin from Hermione (possibly several pins) and I would most likely have become vice-president of S.P.E.W. However, I do think that Hermione approaches the elves the wrong way. She offends them by trying to force them to be free instead of trying to educate them on their rights and the kind of freedoms that could be available to them if they were willing to fight for it. I think the house elf situation in general is a sad one- they are trapped by their own ignorance and most people in the wizarding world like it that way, want to keep it that way, and see no problems with it. I do not think anyone should be put into slavery. It’s just wrong.
What do you look for in a friend? I look for someone who I can laugh with, someone who I can truly be myself with and not feel like they are judging me or thinking what a weirdo I am. Similar interests are also a bonus but quite often I make friends with people who are very different from me (although my closest friends are so much like me it’s kind of scary).
Would you rather have friends and family or money and success? Definitely friends and family. And not just because I think it is the right thing to want or whatever, but because money can only buy so much happiness. For instance, if I was very rich I could buy all the Harry Potter merchandise my little heart desires, pile it all up in a room and roll around in it and stick it in my ears and say ”Wheeeeeee!!!!”. But without my 2 best friends to share it with, it would quickly loose its charm. Plus, I am the kind of person who needs human contact. I would go mad without it. I have to be able to talk to someone, spending too much time alone makes me feel depressed.
If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be? I would make myself more decisive. I am really eclectic in my opinions and tastes and so even though there are some things that I have a definite, unbending opinion on, there are a lot of things that I have a really hard time deciding on one way or the other because I can often see both sides of a situation.
What do you feel is your best quality? I am very open-minded, and I love that about myself. It’s not very often that I come across anything that I will not try once; I am very accepting of other people’s views and opinions. Even if it is something I do not agree with I still usually feel that just because it is not for me does not mean it won’t/can’t be the right thing for someone else.
What are your hobbies? I read all the time. Constantly. It’s one of my favorite things to do. I have made a hobby out of being obsessed with all things Harry Potter. I have been going to HP conferences for the last 2 years now and plan to be going to more in the coming year. I am totally in love with Eddie Izzard and everything and anything to do with him and so consequently one of my hobbies is fighting the never ending battle to obtain tickets to his shows (they are very hard to get) and just following his career in general. I also love going to the theatre (movies and live).
Do you want to have children? Maybe. I have not totally made up my mind yet. I love children, and I think it would be a wonderful experience to have some of my own some day, but in the end my decision to have (or not have) some of my own will depend on the direction my career is going (I want to be an actress and so with that kind of career it can be difficult to raise a family too.) I do not think it is right or would be fair to have children if I never have the time to spend with them. I hate the idea of having kids and then sticking them with a nanny all the time. It’s like what’s the point? The decision to have kids will also depend on my marriage (who I am married to, how he feels about children, etc.). And then there is the fact that I have always seriously thought about adoption because there are so many children in the world without homes and in some ways I think it is almost pointless to bring more children into the world when I could make a child who is already living happy by giving them a loving supportive home.
Have or would you give time and money to a charity? Absolutely. The one thing that really appeals to me most about being rich (besides security) is being able to give to charities and consequently help people all over the world. I think that must be the most amazing feeling in the world to know that something so simple as donating your money has changed countless lives.
If your friend was attacked (by a person, animal, or (in the magic world) beast), what would you do? If I was present at the time of the attack I would think of the most effective way to drive the animal/person away from me and my friend without causing any permanent or long lasting damage to it/him/her. If I was not there when it happened I would do my best to be loyal and supportive of my friend, help them in any way I could, but I would not try to get revenge or anything.
What is the one thing you would most like to accomplish? I want to earn respect in the eyes of the people whom I look up to and admire and at the end of my life I want nothing more or less that to be able to look back at my accomplishments and feel proud of them and what I have done with my life.
Who is your role model? Eddie Izzard. This is mostly because he is an actor/comedian (which is the profession I want to go into) and I think that the way in which he handles himself with his fans is amazing. He is one of the most gracious, humble, down to earth guys. Plus I have a tremendous amount of respect for a man who is daring enough to wear women’s clothing/make-up, be ridiculed and mistreated for it, and still hold his head up high and be proud of who he is and what he has become.
What trait most annoys you about other people? Probably self-centeredness. For example, I have a friend (and I love her dearly, but still) who just does not seem to care much about anything that does not directly affect her. I think it is important for people to care about what is going on in other countries, in their own country, with the environment, in their friend’s lives, etc. even if it does not affect you in a direct way.
What do you want to do for a living? I plan to be an actress, but I am also getting a teaching degree because I have always loved little kids and I think that a.) When you plan on doing something like acting its good to have something to fall back on and b.) I think it is something I could truly be happy doing if one day I decided I was fed up with the acting thing (which is unlikely to ever happen, but still).
Would you ever use an Unforgivable Curse for any reason? Never. There’s no excuse for it in my opinion, not even for self defense because there are a million other curses/hexes/spells that could be used in self defense that do not reach the extreme limit of torturing, controlling, or killing the person on the receiving end but would still defend you quite well. Besides, even though I often get easily frustrated with people, when it comes down to it, I could never truly in my heart want to torture or kill someone, even my worst enemy, and I would therefore not be able to perform the curse.
What house do you think DOESN'T fit you? (This question is optional for those who feel they just DO NOT fit in a house. Please explain WHY.) Slytherin, because the hat says that Slytherin’s are cunning and clever and will use any means to get what they want. Now, I have a very competitive streak to me, I am a very determined person when I want to be, and when it comes to taking risks and breaking rules for the greater good I’m all about it (i.e. going down the trap door to save the stone, stuff like that). But I would not do whatever it takes to achieve personal gain especially if it means people would be hurt or killed or if it meant that I had to do things that I knew were wrong. And nothing against Slytherin’s, but I do believe that a good many of them would disregard the well being of others to get what they want.
What do you think are your top five abilities or qualities? My top five qualities are 1.) I have an open mind (I talked about this earlier, no need to repeat myself).
2.) I am extremely forgiving. Usually, no matter what someone has done, if they are friendly to me and apologize I will forgive them right away and not hold grudges. 3.) I’m a pretty laid back, free flowing person and I think that’s a good thing. 4.) I have a good sense of humor and I know how to have fun, and 5.) I’m brave- not in the sense that I do daring or courageous things but I think I am good at facing my fears and standing up pretty well to them.
