  • What sort of profession in the wizarding world would you choose and why?
I’ve no idea. After reading book 5 I wanted to be an Unspeakable, because they seemed to get to play around with time and love and the mysteries of life. But on second thoughts, I don’t want to work for the MoM and I’m not a philosopher, so maybe I would be a freelance researcher. Or a cursebreaker who dealt with rare books, but got to travel while doing it.

  • If you could teach one class at Hogwarts, what would it be and why?
Potions. Although to be honest, I don’t think I’d like to teach lots of younger kids anything. But I like cooking, which seems related to making potions - you just need to understand the ingredients, and then you can be creative. I imagine teaching that to older students would be fun. Plus it seems like the Potions professor gets decent perks with their position - Snape has a private lab (he must have done, to make Lupin’s potion away from the pupils) and storeroom filled with rare ingredients.

  • This year, The TriWizard Tournament is being held once again and you're of age. Do you put your name in the Goblet? Why or why not?
Yes, I would… although I would do it at midnight, or in a large group of people, to avoid being noticed. I think I would be able to complete the tasks, and well. I always enjoy having life a bit unusual, seeing and doing different things, which would be my main reason for entering - just for the experience. And I do tend to be impulsive, only superficially aware of consequences, so I would probably act really blasé about the tasks, then realise the night or hour before what I’d actually got myself into.

  • If you could choose your animagus form, what would it be and why?
Either a frog or a bird/insect/cat. Frogs have always been my favourite animal because they’re amphibians who belong to two worlds, and I also love the water. Plus they’re absolutely gorgeous creatures, especially the poisonous ones. However, I think if I became am animagus it would ultimately be to spy, and frogs aren’t exactly inconspicuous. So in that case, I’d want to be a small, discrete animal who could listen in on conversations without being seen, Rita Skeeter style.

  • What HP character do you identify with most and why?
Harry? Cho? I’ve honestly no clue. I would stay Cho because I consider her to be a fierce and constant friend (she never ditched Marietta) which is one of the things I value most. She’s also fairly sporty, intelligent, and cries easily - traits I share. She’s also just a side character in Harry’s story, which kinda gives her a lot more space to act outside the constraints of the main narrative. Or (paradoxically) Harry, because he’s also reckless yet comes across as quite unassuming. And everyone wants to be a hero…

  • What would you see if you looked into the Mirror of Erised?
If I was in a good mood I think I would see a huge library, the kind with bookshelves to the ceilings, ladders, dust, and that humming kind of silence. (Remember watching “The Pagemaster” as a kid? I’m thinking somewhere like that). And I’d be able to see doors though the columns of books, ones that I could open if I wanted. Because it’s all about possibilities, and you could imagine anything behind the doors: swimming pools, friends, sci-fi worlds, anything. And who knows what are between those pages? Although I’d probably just see my friends and large jar of peanut butter if I was feeling lonely.

  • If you won a million dollars, how would you spend it?
I wouldn’t. Money scares me. Or… well. I guess I would go on book spree and spend a weekend somewhere I hadn’t been before, like Rome or Vienna. Then I’d donate some to the organisation I vollie for, put some aside for uni, and give the rest to my dad. I expect he would then use it to pay off the mortgage and for my siblings’ education.

  • What was your ideal job as a kid? Has that changed? What is your ideal job now?
I used to want to be a nanny, so I could play with toys all day. Now I think… maybe an author, or a geographer who doesn’t work in government, or full time activist, working for an organisation that deals with social justice or animal rights issues.

  • If you were able to invent one spell, potion, or charm, what would it do, what would you use it for or how would you use it, and what would you call it?
Maybe a charm you could use to block Avarada Kavarda. You could call it Adravak Adarava (sorry, being lazy and not checking spelling). That would be a useful one.

  • If you were to face a boggart, what would it turn into? And what does it turn into when you throw the counter-spell, Riddikulus?
A plane toilet. Don’t laugh. They’re terrifying. And I’d see it right next to me flushing and sucking all the air out of the room, urggg. But I think it could just collapse into a puddle or something. Or deflate, and parp like a balloon.

  • What do you look for in a friend?
Intelligence, life, gleefulness, passion, and the willingness to be there for you when necessary. Because that’s what friendship is about. (And all the other little quirks that a person may have, random obsessions and humour and such.) I don’t really look for friends though; I just tend to meet people and click.

  • What trait most annoys you about other people?
Smoking. God. If you’re going to kill yourself, do it properly. Don’t just sit there reeking fumes and giving everyone else cancer with your second-hand smoke. Grrrrrr. Sorry for the mini-rant, but that’s my pet peeve.

  • What do you think are your top five abilities or qualities?
    1. I never ditch my friends. If they need me, I am there for them.
    2. I’m quite intellectual, and love researching, reading, debating, and writing essays.
    3. I am willing to try new things.
    4. I have actually morals that I stick to (eg, I am a strict vegetarian/almost vegan).
    5. I very rarely lie; I’m blunt with my friends and say what I think.

  • What do you think are your top five weaknesses or worst qualities?
    1. “I can resist everything except temptation,” hehe. I’m good at overindulgence and find it hard to say no.
    2. I have a tendency to get paranoid and eavesdrop.
    3. Sometimes I find it hard to be assertive.
    4. I have weird rages, and will go insane over the smallest things, especially if I think a good friend is blanking me in some way.
    5. I don’t work consistently, but in little bursts of obsessive-ness.

  • Define in your own words the following key traits:
    • Courage: Is when your heart is beating like a butterfly, but you bite your lip and act anyway.
    • Loyalty: Is, to me, almost a dirty word (and I am in no way trying to diss other Hufflepuffs, but I just have a problem with this word). I never want to call the bond between two people “loyalty,” because, to me it’s something beyond that, something infused with love. To me, the word loyalty means blind, unthinking obedience, and is scary as.
    • Intelligence: Is variable. You could be book-smart, you could be people-smart, you just make amazing vegan banana bread or spiffy mahogany chairs. I think intelligence develops when you have an interest in life and the world around you.
    • Ambition: Is drive. Plans. Your grand picture, plus all the steps you’ll actually remember to take to achieve your goal.
